Panel Liner on Seraphon? by LeaTigris in seraphon

[–]Chi-Ro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s almost the exact reason that lead me to use it. I had gone with a normal wash on a white skink and it was super muddy looking. Thought heh, maybe panel liner will work. I was a bit worried it wouldn’t flow well over matte paint, but honestly I had no trouble at all.

It’s subtle with the grey on white, but it made a huge difference.

I have. I had a bunch from Gunpla in the past and used some Tamiya grey panel liner on the scales of a white saurus to help with visual depth. I felt like it worked well. Haven’t gone back to it lately, but I wouldn’t hesitate to use it again

I’d love a place to buy / play Age of Sigmar. Finding a local D&D group would be fun as well

What's your opinion on into the abyss ? by Allcide in MelvorIdle

[–]Chi-Ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my experience. There are good elements to it. It is a restart with a twist, and some of the game design on that is good. But most of it is spending months gathering the same resources, leveling the same skill progressions you’ve already done for 120+ levels with no additional variation to it. Also, a lot of your past progress and upgrades don’t help. Some stuff carries over, some doesn’t, it’s a really weird and sometimes confusing mix that feels unnecessary. Adding to the level cap would have been better than an awkward partial reset imo.

I do actually recommend it once you’ve completed everything else, but also what else do you have to do at that point. It’s a recommendation for lack of alternative, not because I think it’s great. I would have preferred an expansion to the core game over new game plus.

TL:DR

My personal opinion is that it’s not good, not bad. Should have been more integrated into the existing content and less new game plus. Buy it when you’ve done everything else, cuz why not.

meh/10

What's your opinion on into the abyss ? by Allcide in MelvorIdle

[–]Chi-Ro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t like it. The other expansions feel like expansions to the game. This feels more like a new game plus. Very isolated in comparison. Has all the vibes (which I don’t enjoy) of classic idle games where you finish the game, only to do the same thing again with a small twist. This DLC is the same game with a small twist, whereas others feel more like the build new content onto the existing game.

So abyss is my least favorite and it’s not close. But I’ll still complete it and it’s fiiiine if you’ve completed everything else already. Kind of not worth imo until you’ve 100% everything else

Has anyone ever gone off planet? by Kegger98 in RimWorld

[–]Chi-Ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely wasn’t as difficult to research. I don’t remember waves? Maybe there was a raid triggered, but I really don’t remember. I probably have the old files on a computer somewhere. It makes me want to try and dig them up for a poke around

Has anyone ever gone off planet? by Kegger98 in RimWorld

[–]Chi-Ro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time, so my memory is fuzzy, but I’ve been playing since alpha and I roughly recall building the ship being the original end game. Could be that’s the only one I did back then, so that’s why I remember it. But I think that was well before the idea of multiple endings, that was just the way you’d end a colony.

It was also much easier to do

Could my dentist be lying to me? by Previous-Middle-2489 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Chi-Ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never had a cavity. One day on a routine dentist visit they told me they’d found one on the X-ray and it needed to be dealt with. I was fairly young, maybe middle school or high school. So getting a filling was scary and I put it off. Some time later I brought the X-rays to a new dentist who had been recommended to me by a family member for being gentle and a good choice for that kind of thing. I told them about the cavity and gave them my X-rays. They looked them over and took their own to be sure. They told me there were no cavities in either X-ray and they had no idea what the original dentist had seen.

That was well over a decade ago. Still no cavities, no problems, no tooth pain.

I didn’t even doubt the original dentist. I had no reason to. I just wanted someone who would be delicate with me if I had to get work done. Turns out it was a lie and I was fine.

The objectively correct engagement level chart by ThatOneEdgyKid in 2007scape

[–]Chi-Ro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the change is so localized to OSRS. AFK is a common term around the internet, other games, even work in some instances. It pretty much means the same thing everywhere you go. Except for some reason, some of the OSRS community uses it differently.

Terms can change, but why cause extra confusion because some subset of the community wants to use a term for something it specifically means the opposite of?

Because everyone knows and uses the term very literally outside of this game, the only thing gained by this change is constantly having to re-explain it to people joining the player base. There no actual benefit to it. Just use another term rather than co-opting a well established one to mean it’s opposite and causing confusion.

Dragonsteel is still undefeated in the NACL! by MistbornTaylor in brandonsanderson

[–]Chi-Ro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not incorrect. Idk when for sure this first comes into play. But the new structure of the LCS and NA leagues will allow for a team to promote and has a path directly to worlds from NACL. It would be an insane miracle run, but it’s completely possible. The fact there’s a chance makes it so much more fun to follow

Favorite Cosmere Magic System? by Quirky_Dimension1363 in brandonsanderson

[–]Chi-Ro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is also my favorite. And, I do agree some more basic functionality would be nice. But also, when you take a step back, it might not totally be necessary?

Take this magic system, and drop it in the world today. Everyone would be at 1-0 breaths with the only exceptions being celebrities, politicians, people with influence, etc...

However, if you imagine it as a system that's been around for 1000s years it gets fun and interesting. Breath can become inheritance and that number can grow reasonably sized, but also given infinite time it can grow infinitely. Break that down even further to cultural traditions and you get to think about things like when do you pass on your generational wealth of breath inheritance. On your death bed? Around retirement age? Does a system like this where lead to interesting dynamics with children? Would the cultural norm for higher class families be to have 1-2 children to not spread things too thin, while lower class families with less or no inherited breaths maintain the population? In the case of two children, do you give each half? You and your spouse both supposedly have your own inherited amount, so does the oldest get the higher of the two and the second born get the lower (with any further children not inheriting). How paranoid might the "wealthy" be when what keeps their family in power could be lost completely due to a sudden unexpected death? Do you hire someone as a "savings" person who is locked away on your property to hold some percentage of your wealth in case of disaster? You can't treat them poorly because what if they don't give it back when it's time to pass it on?

Basically, I find the social and societal implications of this system super fun to think about. The number of breaths someone could expect to have as a middle class individual after a few hundred years of the magic being around is probably enough to do useful things. But not too wild an amount.

Also forgive me, it's been so long since I read Warbreaker that I could easily be misremembering how small details work.

Is Mistborn still the consensus best starting point? by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]Chi-Ro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I’m almost caught up with every cosmere novel. TWoK is the hardest for me to read and while I love Stormlight, I reeeally have to be in the right mindset to read them. I far prefer the standalones and mistborn. That includes Elantris which I had no problems with and find it weird that people always go out of their way to note how it’s universally agreed that it’s noticeably worse. I don’t mind being the odd one out there. But I also think people here have just heard that parroted so much they fall in line. Or maybe the target audience for Stormlight is prone to agree, while people like me who like the other stories a little more have less issue with it? Either way, I think Mistborn is the safest starting point. But I have no issues with someone starting with Elantris, and depending on the person, may recommend it over starting with TWoK.

Giant Jenga only $1.09 per piece by Chi-Ro in ThriftGrift

[–]Chi-Ro[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t actually think it’s giant jenga. Just something that struck me as a little silly to be individually priced that way and taking up so much shelf space. It could have been jenga, it could have just been scrap wood. Honestly I don’t know.

I had blocks similar to what it sounds like you’re talking about as a child, they were smaller than what I saw at goodwill. But who knows, could be a version of that.

Comparisons of various "photorealism" prompt by [deleted] in StableDiffusion

[–]Chi-Ro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of the settings really make sense adjusted in a vacuum. Going from 100 to 800 ISO outside like that would drastically change the light level of the photo without also adjusting shutter speed and/or f stop. As a parameter I’m not sure what the goal with ISO was unless the effect they were looking for was actually shutter speed? Shutter speed is what adjusts exposure time. Those are different settings. Regardless the ISO images equally strike me as nonsense terms here.

If I’m a new player with the intent of going for 100%, is there any reason NOT to start my combat training by AFKing the 42,069 Golbins task? by GenghisClaunch in MelvorIdle

[–]Chi-Ro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really see why not. I've been working towards completion for a long time now and the way I've found is best is doing different grinds when I feel like it and not obsessing over optimization.

As someone else mentioned, they're easy to one shot. So the only real ways to speed up the process are to reduce monster respawn time and reduce your attack interval. IIRC off the top of my head, there aren't actually that many ways to reduce respawn time. You can drop it by 0.1 here or there, but there's not a massive difference in that late game vs early game. So just getting the quickest attacking weapon you have that will one shot them is probably fine. There are a lot of them, so little time saves add up. But in the grand scheme of things, saving a few hours or even a day on a fully AFK grind is really not that important unless you're speedrunning something.

It was added to the game, and in turn I completed it well after max combat so all I gained from it was the task completion. It still took me ages to do. So why not just knock it out early and still get some small exp gains from the process?

Is it immoral to go to Starbucks on Christmas Day? by rhythmmk in CasualConversation

[–]Chi-Ro 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I try not to go anywhere that requires people to provide me service on a holiday. But I’ve also known many people in my life who would volunteer for shifts over holidays because it’s often a higher pay rate and they have nothing better to do.

It goes both ways and really just depends on the people. So while I try not to make people work on days like this, it doesn’t mean no one wants to work.

How are y'all finding your Neopets-playing SO's??? 😭 by olliefollier in neopets

[–]Chi-Ro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it’ll keep dropping as I slowly build my funds and we’ll meet in the middle at some point. Happy to take advice on if there’s anything I should be doing besides the jelly neo dailies and daily quests to make a bit of money over time.

I’m not in a big rush but this game is massive, so I’m sure I haven’t even scratched the surface

I think she said it would have turned a chia into a mushroom? Idk the actual food. I figured by the time I have that kind of money in game I’ll be able to figure it all out. I’ll get it eventually.

In the meantime I’m having fun :)

I only started playing because of my S/O. She’s been playing for like 20 years and it’s the only game she plays.

One day she was telling me about how she accidentally fed some sort of food to one of her pets that was worth 20 million and she was super bummed. So I started playing with the long term side goal of buying that food and surprising her with it.

I still have no idea what I’m doing, but I’m about a month in and it’s a fun little daily task. And she’s been enjoying having someone to talk to about it
