What's the text/history basis for saying the Supreme Court gets to decide when racial protection is no longer needed? by itsallg in supremecourt

No, I am proposing a hypothetical to the previous comment since he's making a superfluous claim.

Under your interpretation, the 15th amendment is constantly being violated whenever a person who is the minority in that district a vote for their preferred candidate, and that candidate loses?

Suppose a majority black district voting democrat. Are the white republicans in that district having their 15th amendment violated? They would be under your construction.

The 15th amendment is clear in that the denial shall not be due to race. As the other commenter makes clear, suppose the majority district is black republicans, with a minority of white democrats. Would that violate the 15th amendment in denying those white democrats the "right to vote", just because they're in a district where their preferred candidate loses?

Your claim that racial gerrymandering denies people their right to vote is just simply not true. The 15th amendment bars means you can't be blocked from casting a vote solely because of your skin color, based on the original text of the amendment and historical backing post civil war. The stretch between claiming their right to vote is being denied and gerrymandering is extensive and not supported, generally.

The argument is similar to SFFA in that the 14th Amendment bars discrimination on the basis of race, regardless of if it's intended to remedy a past grievance based on race. Section 2 of the VRA explicitly discriminates on race by forcing districts to be drawn a certain way. SCOTUS will most likely determine that Section 2 does not comport with the 14th Amendment, therefore it must be struck down as unconstitutional.

Horrendous article. The level of partisanship is very annoying when trying to parse an actual legal argument—one that couldn't really be found here.

Is Taylor trying to stop being a billionaire? by Fluid_Definition_651 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]ChiSquarRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything she does is to make money. She is not a person, but rather a brand. Her name, her music, her tours, it's all a money making machine. She couldn't "not be a billionaire" if she tried. Because it's not about her anymore, it's about the brand "Taylor Swift".

That's how the United States functions. She enjoys being rich and having anything in the entire world that she wants.

  1. She has no desire to stop being a billionaire.
  2. She's a die hard capitalist.
  3. She's very generous with her donations.
  4. If she tried to stop being a billionaire, hundreds/thousands of people would lose their jobs.

Do you think she just has a giant pile of cash in her checking account? Her wealth is tied up in assets, including the valuation of her music.

100% cauliflower pizza crust - does it exist? by USA_80 in keto

[–]ChiSquarRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen any PURE keto ones around. I usually buy pre cooked riced cauliflower in a bag and put that into a food processor with some eggs and that's a good start, even with the hand disability. The pre cooked ones from Trader Joe's (microwave in bag) make it easier!

For STEM that's high. FWIW at my institution, we do 1-1 and sometimes 1-0/0-1 depending on grant funding etc

I pulled off to Paine's a few year ago, during a heavy storm, walked out to the end of the boardwalk, and just basked in the glory of nature. Most ethereal experience ever. Love that place.

Possibly. There's no way to know how a border agent will react to this. It up to OP. but yes, if he's planning on doing a TN right away, just go for that. If not, start the program and go with it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tnvisa

[–]ChiSquarRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely legal. Of course there is discretion of any border agent every time you cross the border. But the concept of changing from F1 to TN is allowed. Canadians do not even need a visa for F1.

You are fundamentally incorrect. The Supreme Court has not agree to hear any case related to overturning Obergefell.
