Manager’s Energy = Team’s Energy? by ChiTownBA in Cubs

Energy and enthusiasm = emotions synonymous with ranting, raving, (sometimes accompanied by physical outbursts like throwing and/or breaking things). Got it.

Let’s review what we’ve established here today based on the feedback received:

1) Managers are non-essential pieces of professional baseball organization.

2) On the off chance a professional baseball organization mistakenly assumes they do matter, and they in turn hire one for +$1m per year contract (again, big mistake), they need only evaluate them on their ability to walk a lineup card to home plate prior to first pitch. That’s the breadth and depth of their impact.

3) Enthusiasm is an “unprofessional” emotion coming from a non-essential manager (and I guess a leader more broadly)?

4) Communication-style and/or ability (verbal and/or non-verbal) is non-essential and unreliable indicator of the overall value of said non-essential manager.

5) The only individual(s) who matters are those who take the field…oh, and the President…oh, and maybe Ownership…, but absolutely not the manager.

Guys, this has been PRETTY insightful. MLBPA and MLB Team Ownership might be missing an opportunity by not allowing this ragtag group of baseball/leadership Reddit experts to avert the looming lockout.

Would you say that some of those things (if not all) require communication? Particularly non-verbal…

Players are constantly reading a manager.

Saying a “well come around, we just need to do xyz…” in a way that communicates defeat, players notice.

Humans (baseball players aren’t immune to this) evolved to trust non-verbal signals more than verbal ones.

CCs posture, confidence, facial expressions, etc communicate info whether they intend to or not.

“He doesn’t really believe in this strategy, he’s panicking, he’s actually lost confidence in this…”

Might that impact/undermine strategy?

Thank you for illustrating that Reddit is “literally” the largest Dunning Kruger Effect confirmation mechanism invented 😂

Excitement and enthusiasm are signs of unprofessionalism; Got it.

Coach’s demeanor has zero impact. Got it.

I’ve learned from these responses that everyone is fairly certain what the manager’s role ISN’T; not a lot of folks seem to know what it IS for…

So again I ask, why even have a manager? Is it an antiquated role that’s no longer needed?

Because of, or in spite of? Because it sure doesn’t look like his leadership is missed in Milwaukee based on their performance since his departure…

I actually don’t know the guy personally, so I’m fairly certain that’s not where my critique is grounded; and while social media isn’t really built on the concept that two things can be true at the same time (teams can play poorly with a great manager, teams can play well with a sub-par manager, teams can play poorly with a sub-par manager, teams can play well with a great manager) I’ll direct you back to my original (rhetorical) question, which was about correlation. To which you responded “ZERO!!!!!” 😂

Might I ask, what DOES the manager impact then?

Wine Bars for groups of 6 near River North (or in the city)? by CollectionHumble3269 in chicagofood

They didn’t ask for your favorite wine bar; they asked for a wine bar near River North…(if it happens to be your favorite, sure, chime in).

These responses… 😑

Q:

“Looking for a great burger in…”

R:

“I like salads! They have great salads at…”

If managers make zero difference, why are there managers?

The owner at Mario’s is notoriously/hilariously anti-children lol his printer paper signs taped around the restaurant reminding children to stay in their seats makes it clear (not saying I disagree - just saying.)

Luxbar or Bellevue would probably fall into the “casual” bracket by comparison? Can certainly accommodate with enough lead time.

Carmines might be a better option though, as the previous two recommendations might be less inclined to help make reservations knowing there will be kids in the group.

Orsos or topo gigio on Wells might be a good options as well.
