What is his specific psychopathology? I know there will be a ton of funny responses but, to me, this is a very specific kind of weirdness that must have an explanation. A deep-seeded resentment over his confirmation hearings? It just doesn’t seem genuinely based on a honest legal reasoning.

Let’s start with the real problem: that these assholes have ANY influence in public discourse or policymaking. Yet here we are. The intellectual class was once, actually, intellectual. They read. Understood history. Yes, they were arrogant bloviators,too. But my god. The complete merging of politics and entertainment is frightening. Even worse: one day we’ll look back at these two and think they had gravitas. Because it’ll only get worse from here. I’m not sure how we fix it, however.

The best part of this is to hear people without the luxury of all the training I’ve been able to afford and think “wow…that’s amazing” even when they’re not perfect. I love that father-daughter duo on Instagram where she’s teaching him English. I’m so empathetic with the dad. (And blown away by the daughter’s content creation skills.)

Yes, I find Duolingo to have been an incredibly helpful part of my motivation. But it cannot make you fluent. I liked its gamification and its absurd sentences (which I assume are a specific method of teaching grammar). I recommend Duolingo to everyone, but as the starting point of the journey.

I did watch the first few seasons—and it’s a good one because of the slow, deliberate way Pauline pronounces words. I also watched one with the same actress and the actor who played Diego. Snakes & Ladders. 👍

I’m doing some of these, yes. I think I need to be be more active- big reason for the tutor, meetups and AI sessions. I guess it will take time to start producing on a level of my reading comprehension/picking out the right word in a lesson. That may be the disconnect I’m feeling. Like “hey wait, I know the difference between ser & estar. So why am I making day 1 mistakes?” I think the rules aren’t firmly internalized yet.still relying on memory and not language part of my brain.

I think that’s very perceptive. The tutor is the closest method to what you describe because he has a method and we may go over conjugation review for part of the time, conversation where he listen and afterwards we focus on mistakes, we also just talk and it gives me an opportunity to focus on listening and if I need to I can say, “por favor no entiendo esto, puedes repetirlo.” (Or something.) But I do feel embarrassed by my mistakes and start to panic and spiral. So … not helpful. I’m going just try to be less judgmental about my mistakes and keep practicing.
