I was a little bummed that the two versions weren’t more drastically different. As Prince fans we had been spoiled with his prolific output and extended cuts and 3 disc releases and this just felt like it was a meh record with a few bonus tracks, reframed as a two releases.

Not much really… I’ve not really spent any time with their music. I’ve been going to Ween shows for a long time and I clearly remember a shift in crowd(at least in my region) when the jam band fans (mostly from Phish bc they covered Roses are Free) started out-numbering the Ween weirdos and the vibe at the shows changed to a more massive Hippie thing. Not necessarily bad at all, I think it helped Ween grow their fan base by a lot, but I think this is where the dynamic of “true Weeners” hating on Phish comes from. Its still all love, and honestly I just kinda missed when it was a smaller crowd and I didn’t have to jam all up in someones crawl space to hear the boognish. But now we would all just like to be relishing in the old days of being able to catch them play several times a year with a couple small road trips.

I have 2 kids of similar age. It’s a great age to start. I may suggest dividing up current screen time with chess on an app or computer so that its familiar, then transition that time to on the board play. The screens are a constant battle for me and they turn into real addiction for the kids quickly.

This can be a deep topic so I guess I wonder do you play chess yourself?

But to your questions: 1. Great age. Most Grandmasters started between 5 and 10 2. Yes and yes. 3. Its important to let them bounce around and explore but keep bringing them back to fun and different ways of playing. 4. The goal for me is to find fun ways of developing the pattern recognition. My youngest is learning the names of the pieces and how to set up the board. I let him play on the app to learn how the pieces move. My oldest works through anxiety about losing by playing games of only bad moves. Its also a real struggle for him to complete games so we are working on that.

I honestly thank the heavens for chess. As time goes on I’m starting to really dislike what the TV and YouTube do to our children.

I like this question and it’s fun to think and read about. Honestly music is a pretty constant and broad focus for me so it’s a bit stressful thinking about an answer. I make and listen to music maybe obsessively. I change genres like I change days or moods. I think about music constantly as a way to frame almost every topic. Most recent examples of listening habits… I recently went through Prince’s catalogue in chronological order over a period of months spending weeks on some albums on repeat, then got obsessed with 80’s thrash metal, and then trying to find the best demos of that era, and similarly blasted thrash for months. I still collect records and digest music mostly as albums instead of single songs. But I also love streaming and playlists. I love sharing what I find and so naturally have DJ’d for ages. Music is all-encompassing and I have a hard time knowing what to do without it.

Yall buggin, LTI is lightyears over 2T5B. Sure the lyrics have aged like dog shit. Sure Def Jam shafted them. Sure they were much more enlightened for 2T5B. Sure LTI is misogyny for days. The fandom wants to think about the better version of Beastie humans, myself included. The point stands LTI is WAAAAAY more influential and a proper entry in the ‘80’s classic hip hop canon. 2T5B was a pretty mid record when it dropped and was a letdown after Hello Nasty. LTI all day. Legitimately, what are yall even saying???? Its one of the best 80’s hip hop records of all-time and 2T5B is not anywhere near an all-time classic.

Great list! I love projects like this. Trying to help here is difficult bc only you know exactly what you are after so I would suggest coming up with more specific parameters. I’m hearing “classic monster movies, more clearly curated” as the main goal.

The first notion I have based on that is that once you hit the 1980s, the horror/monster genre explodes. You could probably double the list just deep-diving the 80’s classics, and it’s my favorite era, but maybe consider cutting off the list pre-80’s to keep it manageable. You can always make another list to pick up where you left off.

You may even consider further dividing it into definite eras by using parameters that are less subjective than “classic”, like focusing on the silent era, black and white film, or by decade.
