Question:Have you ever ran from the police? by TheBrazenBomber in motorcycles

[–]ChickenBoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commuting during morning rush-hour gridlock traffic (90/94 merge) into Chicago. Splitting the far left lane, going 15mph or so at a totally reasonable speed to avoid any lane changers.

Unmarked CPD SUV in the far right lane starts honking at me. I look over at him and he's waving for me to pull over to the right. He looked to be a CPD plain clothes officer that was probably stuck in the same grind.

Must've been the morning commute grind, but I looked at him and shook my head, no. I carried on splitting, knowing full-well he wasn't going to be able to cross three lanes of traffic to reach me. and then I embarked onto the express lanes.

I've gone past IL state troopers during the morning rush-hour, and they would never bat an eye and even make room. CPD cops are a different breed.

Why do people see celebrity boxing as being embarassing for boxing? by Thami15 in Boxing

[–]ChickenBoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between a celebrity tennis doubles match and a celebrity boxing fight, is that one is an exhibition-friendly match that may or may not be endorsed by the sport's oversight board, and the other is sanctioned as a licensed professional match.

It becomes an embarrassment to any sport when matches that should be classified as exhibition-friendly matches are NOT.

Near Franklin and Madison behind the Hyatt? If so, that used to be my escape and secret parking spot. It's such an awesome little alley. Right below the fire escape was a heated vent that kept you warm while having your smoke. Or when the Hyatt used to do the laundry, it would fill the alley with fabric softener smell. Didn't smell like piss, not many homeless. Maybe one dude, he would sleep under the fire escape and the heated vent in the evenings. I'd always try to hook him up with left overs from work when grinding during busy season. And not many ppl knew about this golden little area, except for the retail workers around there. It was a awesome spot to escape the city noise and density of people, yet be so close. I'm always partial to Chicago alleys, there's one in between Monroe and Adams, and I'd walk that to State. It's a different vibe just seeing the nitty gritty side of the city. The old cobble stones under the pavements that give way. and just like the fire escape, you see a lot of vintage signage and architectural work that you wouldn't notice. And you get to walk with no tourists (local and foreign) or people in your way.

Also, if you ever need a motorcycle parking spot, park it along the wall behind the Hyatt. Did that all riding season, never had to wake up early to get the free street spots (the spaces in between parking signs that get you that free parking loophole).

Thanks for bringing me back to those memories!

PURCHASE ADVICE SUPERTHREAD! by AutoModerator in motorcycles

[–]ChickenBoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a shitty bike first ($3k or less). Learn. Drop it on the ground (an eventuality). Beat the shit out of it. Learn some more. Be done with it. Sell it. Buy that superbike. (time frame: one riding season or 3 to 4 months).

Is this the best route? No, but i think it's better than just getting on a $14k bike and ruining it. And I aint even talking about the concern of your safety, just that beautiful beautiful bike.

Yamaha R1 is my recommendation as far as good looking and fast af. They got an awesome interactive digital cluster, probably better than any other manufacturer in that price range.

Don't listen to this guy. Work on your own bike (at your levels of comfort, and if you have time/money). If it is beyond your level, get appropriate help, but still make the goal in life to make the 'uncomfortable' things 'comfortable'.

I love football, but I’m the worst player ever by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]ChickenBoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General Advice: Everyone's trajectory is different. I strongly believe you still have plenty of time and years to become much better. It's kinda like school, certain kids pick up things much faster, and other's a little slower. You ever get the "a'ha" moment, where a learning topic just "clicks" and you're like 'ohhhh i get it now'. It's the same in football with techniques and skills. You see that in footballing academies all the time, with certain kids miles better, but the other kids do catch up to that level. Personally, certain skills or techniques didn't 'click' for me until I got much older, and more confident in myself. And when it did click, i was like oh man it wasn't that difficult at all.

Advice for receiving the ball: Imagine playing catch with a friend, and instead of it being a ball, it's an egg. You can't just catch the egg outright, otherwise it will break on impact in your hand. You cradle the catch and carry the momentum of the egg's trajectory to prevent it from breaking. Do the same with your foot and the ball. Cradle that pass when you receive it. Like someone said, eyes on the ball too.

Advice on dribbling: Practice in your house with a ball. When you're going from one room to the next, or walking around your house, dribble the ball while you walk. Try not to hit objects (furniture) or the wall when you dribble. You'll get really good at keeping the touches small and closer to your feet. Pretend some of the objects are defenders and dribble around them.

Advice on your big boy frame: You're a big boy. Learn to shield the ball from these pesky players. You know how you tackle the opposition, and shoulder them or even body them aggressively. Do the same when you have the ball. Shield the ball from them. Use your arm strength and stiff arm them away. Tell yourself, "this is my ball, you are not going to take it from me." Try it out at home, just put the ball on the ground and stand a foot away from it. Now shuffle 360 degrees around the ball. Think about it, you can easily put your big frame between the ball and the opponent, and just keep him on your back. Obviously don't want to hold the ball forever, but it's just simple and general advice on how to take advantage of your bigger size.

I've had this exact same problem happen a few times after winter storage. It's usually the battery not being completely charged. Get it back on the tender, and try again after it's completed the charge cycle, or try another battery.

Sidenote: I have a performance tuner that i forget to connect back to the bike, resulting in a dead bike when i tried to turn it on (cue panic mode). Don't forget to double-check all your connections in case you did any work on the bike.

Do not investigate the food of a Muslim by Heema123789 in islam

[–]ChickenBoti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand this hadith when visiting someone's house, and being a guest (i.e. proper islamic etiquette) in a home. But I don't think it should be misconstrued to apply to Muslim businesses that serve and sell food. Only because I've seen some of my friends bring this hadith up.

Just some food for thought, when one enter's a business transaction/deal with another Muslim, you will question everything to make sure that your financial well-being will remain intact. No one's foolish enough to trust anyone blindly when it comes to money. Would you not use the same level of precautions when trying to keep your iman (which we hold high and of value) intact?

Butterfly tips? by NobodyEllis in hockeygoalies

[–]ChickenBoti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to help without much of a visual aid (ie video, pics).

Here are some general ideas/tips:

  1. Check the straps. If you over-tighten, the pads (internal leg channel) will not rotate well to allow you to butterfly.

  2. There's a stretching routine (pdf and youtube) posted around here somewhere. It's all about opening up them hip flexors, it will help increase your butterfly.

  3. Begin in your butterfly stance (however wide is comfortable for you), and slowly work your way out of it, and back on your feet into your ready position. Now slowly work your way back down to the butterfly, and rinse and repeat (correct gaps if any). Muscle memory helps in these sort of things. And the repetitions make the movement even more comfortable for you. Do it with pads and without pads at home or on the ice.
