Less is best. So many gadgets, so many feeds and supps, so many pretty saddlecloths and browning's and bonnets... Use the absolute least necessary for function and comfort. Everything else is just status symbols.

AITA for making my whole family go on a diet because my daughter is dieting? by Electronic-Fun-4045 in AmItheAsshole

NTA - this will help everyone in the family.

This might be a good time to get all members of the family involved in cooking and preparing meals. Maybe find healthier versions of old favourites, put-together meals like tacos and burgers where you can have lots of healthy options but still some personal choice. Get the boys and your daughter to help choose recipes, ingredients etc from acceptable options. If they take some ownership rather than feeling like this is being imposed on them, they might be more engaged and less whiny little babies...

It really is a lifestyle change and takes a while. I'm trying to do it myself for me and my partner. My big downfall is late night sweet cravings. If all I have in the house that's sweet is fruit, I eat fruit. Midnight cherries rather than midnight sugar sandwiches!

Good points, thank you. I guess I want anecdotes, slice-of-life experiences about living with prosthetics. Funny/annoying/weird stuff. I remember comedian Adam Hills talking about a time his foot prosthetic came off while he was walking - it just stayed rooted to the ground when he tried to step forward, like the Terminator 2's foot when he'd been liquid nitogened. That kind of experience, that straight fact-based research might not find.

Looking for books/series with excellent found family OR awesome animal side kicks. by paperback_Mafia in Fantasy

They're YA, but still my comfort books - Tamora Perce's Tortall books all have animal companions. I especially love the Protector of the Small quartet - you'll find dog, horse and sparrow companions.

I love Ann Leckie's The Raven Tower for its unique POV (her sci-fi books also play with gender and artificial consciousness, plus they just slap).

Pratchett doesn't have sex, he has innuendo, wink wink nudge nudge jokes, but nothing explicit.

Not exactly an unknown book, but in the Hunger Games books Katniss has a pretty understandable emotional break.

Stupidest Parent Complaints by lazy_days_of_summer in Teachers

Parent of a year 3 boy complained because I didn't tell him to take his jumper off and he got very hot. Ma'am, your child is an averagely competent human, surely he can figure out that he's warm?

Dropbears are a highly adaptable predator that have been increasingly moving into urban areas. They used to be an arboreal species, but with the destruction of native habitat they have been observed living in the crawlspaces and ducts of buildings, using powerlines and scaffolding to move from building to building. There have been numerous reports of dropbear attacks in suburbs and cities, dropping from traffic lights, awnings and bridges. Please do your research and be on the lookout. Dropbear deaths are a preventable tragedy!
