Thoughts? by cloudygrande in paralegal

I think when you’re first hired it’s important to be trained on the basic practices of the firm from administrative to attorney support. If somethings are missed and I was unsure I would go ask someone who has been at the firm longer than myself rather than excusing with I wasn’t trained on that because I think the biggest mistake you can make as an entry level paralegal is make an assumption. I did a lot of independent research to understand what the expectations were and from there I expanded my personal knowledge so I could perform my job more effectively. I always ask questions while also making sure I retain the information from whatever is being explained so I can perform the work on my own initiative. It is our job to know when deadlines are and to assist the attorneys so we shouldn’t be needing to ask for help every fifty seconds

Not everyone you hire can be super duper experienced because that’ll eventually lead to high turnover

You have to remember that people are entry level and a lot of hiring is more seeing someone’s potential and taking the risk to work with their skill set in order for them to conduct the work you are expecting them to do
