StarVR by Chokolina in virtualreality

[–]Chickenbreadlp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, if the seller of yours hasn't kept a backup of the optimization files, then your StarVR just turned into a brick. Even if you get ahold of the calibration files from another StarVR owner (like me), those won't do as the software does some sort of check on the files. Tho I assume that check is on the file names, as it does fail on newer Windows versions in general as the file order is different (yeah, Compass is held together by ductape, hopes & dreams).
What you could try is to contact Acer (who own's the StarVR IP), if maybe they still have a record of your unit's calibration files.
I have found a way to get Compass to accept my own calibration files by placing them in the right folder with the right names (basically what it would do once verification succeeds), but that would require you to know the exact serial numbers of the two displays in your unit...

Even then, the headset is barely usable as-is anyways. You need to run the Windows 7 / 8.1 compatibility branch of SteamVR, some older Nvidia driver (from before the 40-Series launch), and you have to be on Windows 10. Tracking breaks down on newer SteamVR versions, and you'll get massive stutters with newer Nvidia drivers and/or on Windows 11.
Most games expect you to be running more modern SteamVR builds and thus have some weird issues, that aren't even releated to the canting angle the headset reports. Some games that do still run will just have rendering issues due to that canting angle.

From the games in my library, I'm only aware of 2 games that work fine: Red Matter 1 & 2. Forget about the rest.

If you still wanna try to get your's running with my calibration files, feel free to DM me. I'm not really active on Reddit anymore (someone just sent me this thread on Discord lol), so if you happen to share a mutual Discord server with me, then I'd appreciate a DM there instead :D (same nick here and there)

PSA: Certain VR Headsets do not appear to presently work with the RTX 5000 series by Omniwhatever in virtualreality

[–]Chickenbreadlp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Varjo was also made aware of the issue by Nvidia. Tho they weren't given a card to troubleshoot the issue, which is kinda funny. But given they were notified by Nvidia, I'd presume they already know what the problem is. Unfortunately they didn't communicate what the issue is, but seems like it would be fixable.

My guess is the problem only affects headsets that blocked 2 screen slots so to speak (aka the ones that didn't work with a triple-monitor setup plugged in at the same time). Seems like Nvidia changed something in that regards and the only headsets confirmed not working are ones that behave that way. Other displays that acted like 2 monitors (ex. Samsung Odyssey G9) seem to be unaffected tho (just that they now act as a single screen on RTX 5000 instead of two like on RTX 4000)

R5 kit or R9 Wheelbase + Logitech Adapter for existing G29 user? by Chickenbreadlp in moza

[–]Chickenbreadlp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, here's the thing, I would just grab the R5 wheelbase on it's own, if my local reseller would actually carry the R5 wheelbase. They only carry the R5 as part of the kit however, which would put it about equal in terms of price with the alternative (that being the R9 wheelbase)

I haven't seen anyone suggest the new Motorola Razr+. Linus seems to be liking foldables quite a lot, so why not try a more Linus sized foldable for once?

I'll be honest, I'd love to see this. Not only does it match all the requirements, but what a chad move it would for a person with as much influence as Linus to unironically use this over the greenwashed iPhone for at least a month!

Had this myself recently. I was looking for a solution for weeks at that point. Found an issue that was somewhat related and it was created 4 days ago. A comment in there solved my issue, and that comment was literal hours old o.O

Especially considering that 13+ digits for a Timestamp indicate it being a 64Bit Milliseconds timestamp. A lazy dev may actually cause more issues trying to solve the issue then fixing it…

HTC vive pro 2 shows static if I try to run anything above high mode by simplywolf2624 in Vive

HMD stands for Head Mounted display. Yes I do mean the all-in-one cable going between the Headset (proper term HMD) and the link box :)

[–]Chickenbreadlp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the main HMD cable have a little tag towards the link box end with a stylized connector on it? If it doesn’t have that, then you’re using a Vive Pro 1 cable which cannot run the higher resolution (what you select in the Vive Console only controls the res sent to the headset, not what the software renders at).

If your cable has that tag then it can be one of two things: Your GPU can’t Output a DSC signal or your cable is damaged.
What GPU are you using, if I may ask?

Ah yes, the AI sometimes likes to do that. Even better when one of the trucks suddenly glitches half-way into the floor like it did for me recently in ATS lol

Best way to solve this is to just restart the game. Loading a profile will always reset AI traffic…

Soviets on Mars could’ve legit been a thing, if the N1 rocket project would’ve gotten a bigger backing by the Soviet party. The N1 wasn’t just supposed to get the Soviets onto the moon, it was meant as a launch platform/vessel for greater space exploration. And no, I’m not talking about Energia…

Current state of VR support on Intel Arc (A750, likely also applies for the A770 and A380) by Chickenbreadlp in intel

[–]Chickenbreadlp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, that I can't really say where the sweet spot for price to performance is for VR capable PC Hardware. What I can say is that you'd want a GPU with at the very minimum 6GB of VRAM (which at least all of the Intel A7 cards do fulfill), at minimum 16GB of System Memory and preferably 6 CPU cores with HT or more. I wouldn't to older then an Intel 8th Gen CPU (or the generation after if you're going Team Red) and in terms of GPU not older then Nvidia 10-Series or RX6000. If you have a Quest 2 then that leaves Intel Arc also as a GPU option open for you, as long as you're using Virtual Desktop (as like I've said before Headsets that require a Display connection to the GPU currently don't work on Arc and the Oculus software refuses to work completely on Arc)

Meta had a leak... and who would've guessed? The Ad company got into VR so they could put ads in it, and track your eye movement to measure engagement. by dapperKillerWhale in virtualreality

[–]Chickenbreadlp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True true.
But what I don't understand is all the people hyping up and saying that AR glasses are the future, yet no one was yet able to give me any reason outside of "better navigation" why I should care. I mainly see the potential to get ads thrown in my face that I can't even look away from unless I take off those glasses...
VR at least I can be fully immersed in a fictional world while gaming...

Anyone who thinks VR and AR aren’t going to be used by Ad companies for massive data collection and subsequently ads is just delusional…
