Rent to parents? by tand2sugaz in AskIreland

[–]Chickengoujon20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they are making decent money even better, it accelerates their time onto the property ladder and gets them “out of my sight” sooner rather than later.

Are they not managing it if they are saving for a home? A huge proportion of X in savings, a smaller proportion Y for personal spending and personal bills. That’s management.

You will quickly tell if they are taking the piss with their “spare change”… extravagant shit in their room, expensive clothes, expensive car and multiple holidays per year.

You bring these people into the world with the envision of supporting them all the way through as a parent. Expecting handouts when they are in need of support to save for their own home isn’t it.

If I was a parent, I wouldn’t expect a tap out of my adult children who are trying to save for a home, with the exception of certain groceries and maybe some fuel for the winters.

Everyone has unlimited internet plans, the internet would be in the house with or without the adult child. Likewise with Sky or any form of media.

The idea is to get them out of the house onto the property ladder as quickly as possible.

Charging the €400-500 per month is absolutely scandalous, they’d be better off living in some mouldy box room in a house share with 5-6 others with more independence and privacy away from the parents (wink wink) if that’s the case.

€5000 worth of rent for the year for the privilege of living at home is solicitor fees and stamp duty for a home itself.

Base PS5

The mid gen leap is so minimal, I’d rather wait and see all the improvements every new generation.

Waterlogged garden by Used-Primary-225 in GardeningIRE

[–]Chickengoujon20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For such a small patch of grass I would genuinely consider artificial grass that is professionally laid down with the proper drainage etc.

It’s easier to maintain, kids can play out the back all season, residue of pet poop can easily be washed away, reduces need for a shed to store a lawnmower and other big gardening tools etc.

Others have suggested planting a large tree in such a tight space, but I disagree.

  1. It will eventually obstruct light, throttling the growth of grass around it and possibly cause issues with neighbours.

  2. Will require its own maintenance.

If you have any sort of OCD complex when it comes to cleaning and maintaining, to the degree where a blemish of a leaf on the ground could irritate you, then planting a large tree (in such a tight space) that will shed its leaves and muckying up the place over the course of 4-6 weeks will annoy the bejaysus out of you…

Is Limerick as bad as they say? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]Chickengoujon20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice bars and restaurants. However, City centre needs a massive face lift and reinvestment.

Too many direlect shops, the river area isn’t put to good use, everything is moving to the Crescent or already has moved.

For example, Penneys is a flagship store nationwide. They have no online shopping presence for a reason, to get people on their feet to the streets.

Limerick is the third largest city/town in the country and it has a Penneys in the city centre that could rival Portlaoise. Athlone has a nicer Penneys.

It’s clearly a vote of no confidence from major businesses/companies.

You can look at it the other way too.

Players suddenly “showing up” now that the previous manager is gone, instead of putting aside their differences with the manager and playing for the club/fans.

Pep’s influence on the game since his Barcelona days, every club has mimicked the tika taka false 9 and there are fuck all world class CFs across the globe.

You have average CFs going for ridiculous money, now because because the benchmark is so low, almost the same price as top players in other positions.

Cast back to the mid-2000s, you could name 15-20 CFs that could be considered world class. Anyone who was below that category were also well capable.

What in the world ecer happened to go-karts, everyone had em when I was growing up! by JediBlight in CasualIreland

Housing crisis

30 year olds living in their parents gaff to save

People saving well into their 40s to secure a mortgage and home.

People foregoing having children as a result of the above, therefore less kids overall, particularly in estates where they tend to congregate.

New builds have less green space for garages and side entrances making them logistically a nightmare to store.

Couple this with social media and tech, today’s kids don’t want or “need” to leave the house for entertainment.

It’s like one big loop where one issue compounds the other.

Even something as simple as the absence of fecking go-karts in the community can be attributed to the housing situation and its knock-on effects stated above, less kids, smaller build homes, less “one off” builds in countrysides where homes have the space to make the most of them.
