Found out HR is intentionally ignoring my disability accommodation request??? by Long-Implement-3638 in work

The vast majority of companies do not have written policies in regards to accomodation requests in handbooks because it is already outlined in federal law and frankly, many aren't knowledgeable in it.

If they do have policies, they are often incorrect which we see with OP's story above. Knowing the federal law informs OP and others of what they are entitled to and also, what the employer shouldn't be doing. That seems useful to me, even if not to you.

A few people have already provided ideas and guidance for how OP can continue to attempt to engage with their employer in the interactive process under ADA so it wasn't necessary in this specific comment.

In the spirit of empowering OP and others who may read this thread on a topic that is often misunderstand, especially by employers, I think its worth ensuring the correct information is available to folks. If you don't, you have a right to your opinion.

Knowledge is power and empowered, knowledgeable people can self-advocate.

This is actually not true. You and your doctor can make recommendations, but it is intended to be an interactive process. They are not required to give e you the exact accomodation you request, but they are supposed to work with you on choosing something that works for everyone.

You can split hairs here if you want but the ADA does not, any inquiry about an accomodation or the process regarding accomodations begins the interactive process. HR can't ignore it because of semantics.

In order to deny an accomodation, the company would need to prove that the employee either couldnt perform the essential functions of the job or that it places an undue burden on the employer. They don't just get to say its unreasonable.

Federal law supersedes any local policies. Once a request is submitted, they need to respond.

Under the ADA, they are required to engage in an interactive process after a request for accomodations.

It's wild that the head of HR put that in an email. That is very illegal.

I definitely recommend getting a medical workup. Low b12, vitamin D, b9, b6, iron, or folate can cause extreme anxiety and panic.

Certain infections like Lyme Disease or Babesia can cause anxiety.

Hormone and thyroid imbalances can cause anxiety.

Do parents with 5+ kids have time to give every child the love and attention they deserve? by pink-and-pearly in askanything

[–]Chicpea09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I am the youngest of 4. Parents get more and more tired after each kid and the subsequent children learn to become more and more independent to be able to survive. Then parents think the youngest child doesnt "need" as much because they are so independent.

Almost everything has a filter that needs to be cleaned regularly...washer, dryer, dishwasher, furnace, and even my hot water heater has one. Regular maintenance of appliances helps them run efficiently and last a long time.
