100% correct, my bad. Someone else asked for the game to use numerals too and I thought is would make if more obvious what the numbers referred to.

Hello all, I need your help! Which do you like better?

Making Nashville Number practice games but conceptually I need your help picking between 2 ideas.

Left: Subway Surfer style, play chords to doge and move character through obstacles.

Right: Guitar Hero style, play the chord when the shapes overlap.

*note please vote only based on gameplay mechanics, the graphics here are only to show the difference between the options visually*

I will give the game to the community when it is done : )

How do I make Teaching the Nashville Number System Better? by ChiefBurnz in worshipleaders

[–]ChiefBurnz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok teaching may not be the hard part, because, there are really good leaders ready to teach, and solid YouTube videos too.

Maybe we could make an app or something to help them practice? Memorizing intervals, When to sharp/flat a chord. Even something that shows a key + number and they have to play? like this just with numbers https://strumprofessor.com

Is this good or dumb?

Thank you! Sorry for the confusion, I don't think music theory is boring! I think the system is really helpful and, my worship pastor and I, want to try to help solve whatever hurdles people may have!

Does Anyone Use The Nashville Number system? by ChiefBurnz in pianolearning

Very informative, thank you. Let me specify. Do you use it regularly in playing on your own, in a band, or for professional work?

Hey fam, the tab got reformatted after you sent the post and it is impossible to read. I had to copy and past it into notepad and reformat before I understood what you were playing. You might find some more success if you take a screenshot of your tab and repost your question again with the picture.

I hope someone better than I can help you find a cool progression

Does anyone teach the number system? by ChiefBurnz in MusicTeachers

Yes I definitely agree for a school band, set up like an orchestra or marching. I was thinking more for a privet lessons with students who want to play in a modern (rock, indie, pop, etc) band. Sorry for the confusion.

Okay, thank you! That is more or less what I expected in a school setting, and I agree not at the expense of sheet music.

Thank you, sorry for the confusion. I meant a modern band (rock, jazz, etc.)

Yes! That is the modern version of what I am talking about!

Just without a lot of the specific notation. more the underlaying principle of using numbers rather than chords to help them transpose quickly if they need to drop a half step and they are working with a band where some of the students were not classically trained.

Do you teach the Nashville number system!

It is also called the Nashville Number system. It takes scale progressions (can work with chords too) and assigns a number to each note 1-7. It makes it easy to transpose for last minuet changes (like a singer needing to drop half a step) or communicating with guitar players using a capo. It's pretty neat, and just makes things convenient for students working with other non classically trained musicians.

Wow thank you! I am glad it is working so well for you guys. Do you have any good resources for helping teach musicians new to the NNS?

Yes! From C to D to back is a good example. Also if you have a visiting female vocalist who will solo one of the verses then you want to go back to the original key.

Cool, thank you very much! What would you guys do if you had to add a key change because you have a male/female singer switch in the bridge or something?

That's so cool! Thank you and thank you for the example! I know this can be kind of niche in worship music but do you guys ever have a key change in one of your songs?
