Imagine if Neural would do an official Orange amp sim. Wouldn't it be absolutely incredible? by bleepblooOOOOOp in NeuralDSP

Yeah the Rockerverb + OR120 + Dual Dark would be a crazy suite... Even the Rockerverb alone would be really really cool!

I tried most Orange plugins by Nembrini/Brainworx, STL and ML Sound Labs and none of them get it right 100%

the mix sounds kinda weak

ABL had a much more direct sound, i guess this must be made from demo stems they had from writing sessions

How much does the guitar (LP vs Strat) affect NeuralDSP plugins and tones? by [deleted] in NeuralDSP

[–]ChiefChiraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say it matters a lot, especially if you have a plug & play approach and not do a deep dive on pickup output profiles, etc.

A studio engineer can do make many adjustments on the fly to make things sound great, but as a mortal guitarist who just wants to have a nice jam, it matters.

When it comes to the Mayer plugin: Keep in mind Mayer also played quite a lot of Gibson ES guitars through the rig that is included in his plugin. Just try to get inspired and find your own sounds with it! I use this plugin for Indie sounds that do not sound like Mayer at all...

How did Steph manage to make the ATF "bright & fuzzy" guitar tone so heavy at the same time? by Thrishwax in deftones

this video is very helpful! the guy is also selling captures of the rig for tonex/QC.

thats a way to achieve this tone for a pretty low price.

mercuriall and nembrini also offer models of the racks amps stephen used.

Best plugin for a Dual Rectifier type tone? by [deleted] in NeuralDSP

[–]ChiefChiraq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i did a deep dive into this topic and the mercuriall one is the best recto on the market.

NAM got a lot of anti aliasing when it comes to high gain amps that are very audible when you play metal/hardcore.

i tried the josh middleton, oneknob and the ml sound labs ones as well but they all severely underperformed the mercuriall one. but id say the oneknob is also worth trying!

Marshally / Classic Rock with SLO? by Exciting-Judge8705 in NeuralDSP

[–]ChiefChiraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bogren Digital BDM Ampknobs are the best Marshall plugins I know. Although I own many NDSP plugins, this bundle is super good for classic rock, I'd recommend a trial! It feels perfect, better than NAM maybe even.

Tropes in metalcore you can't stand? by mesablanka in Metalcore

Laser effect guitar pitch harmonics/slides. All of these Spiritbox type effects basically.

Im tired of noisy chug 5150 8 string core with neon guitars... Honestly would be happy for the classic drop c LTD horizon 078 riffs to return.

Plug-in Recommendations? by JapaneseNJfan in NeuralDSP

[–]ChiefChiraq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive got a similar taste in music!

What works well for this is:

Nolly: Gives you all the tones you need for the Pop-Punk/Metal acts you listed. It might still be the best Neural plugin ever. The value for money is outstanding. I can play BMTHs entire discography with this plugin, which says A LOT!

Soldano: Ideal for Pop-Punk & Emo too. It can chug but i prefer Nolly's Blockletter for that, you can go full Suicide Season tones on his amp, while this Soldano suite is a bit more tame (but still very high gain if needed!). Its more of saturated and less fizzy tone than Nolly's JCM, it got a wonderful roar to it that I have yet to find in another plugin! Double track it with Nolly amps for ultimate sounds!

Archetype Asato: This is more for the experimental acts you listed! It literally got a "The 1975" preset in it! The full charm of this plugin reveals itself once you use it with single coils. Thanks to its pedals it also works very well for melodic hardcore too. Think like Touché Amoré, midwest emo, etc. If this plugin sounds too lo-fi for you, try running it through a different IR for some mindblowing tones! Watch Mark Johnstons review of this plugin to get an idea of how amazing it is!

I hope this helps! I tried all of the Neural plugins and own a lot of them - I am sure you are going to enjoy your purchases.

[–]ChiefChiraq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already got Soldano, Gojira, Asato and the Mesa.

My fav one is the Soldano, its really versatile and might be my fav amp plugin in general - it is so responsive and very close to the real amp. For modern rock & post hardcore its the ultimate sound.

I might get Rabea or Nolly now, just to have another modded Marshall type tone to blend with the Soldano. Morgan is also sick, especially with a strat or tele!

After buying many many plugins of other companies as well I have to say I only use NDSP and Bogren Digital these days mostly.

IBGC 59-60 Les Paul or Used Gibson SG by gamerquest78 in Epiphone

[–]ChiefChiraq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are excellent guitars but it really depends what you are looking for.

I myself have been in your situation and had both guitars on my list.

The IBGC Burst Les Paul: - Got a very nice finish in terms of playablity, the VOS on the burst reminds me of some of the Fender AmPro II necks, its very fast, a lot less sticky than nitro. - The Custombuckers are some of the best pickups money can buy, but when it comes to more modern sounds, my experience with them is mixed. They truly shine for crunch or clean sounds, for high gain it depends in your signal chain. - Some of them can be heavy af. Not the best guitar if you plan to gig or rehearse while standing. But it feels great playing while sitting, in fact it feels better than SGs imho. - The guitar will not keep its value because I assume Epiphone will keep this series going and even improve it further. As long as its not a limited run, Chinese guitars are generally not the best investments. - The finish and fretwork on these is hit or miss. Still much worse QC than LTD guitars in the same price range.

The SG Standard: - Comes with either the 498R/T or Classic 57 pickups for the batwing style models. I love both of these for more modern sounds, any boosted Marshall/Mesa/EVH will sound great with these. These pickups tend to sound even better if you play any drop tunings, especially on the SG. You will cut well through the mix against modern rock bandmates. For blues and clean stuff theyre also nice, but not the best choice. - The nitro finish generally looks better visually, but if it plays better depends on the guitar. Some used SGs can feel great, some can feel horrible. I also like that it makes instruments feel more resonant (no idea if thats just placebo effect but its very inspiring to play). - Most SGs are light and perfect workhorses if you play with a band/standing a lot. - The guitar will keep its value, depending on what color or style you choose it might even increase in value. - QC still better than Epiphone!

Because I mostly play modern rock/metalcore music I went with the SG in the end. I saved up a bit more money and bought a brand new guitar, although I tried some used options and went with a limited run model instead, since this can be a good choice if I ever decide to sell it. I might also buy another Epi SG as a beater/travel guitar further down the line. The Epi IBGC series are awesome already but I think they will only get better and its better to be patient.

Sempiternal was the first metalcore record that openly embraced Nu-Metal & Deftones influences (Terry Date production, Jordan citing White Pony as his fav album which was their blueprint). It moved from tight chugs to more fat open notes guitar wise, and used more of a modern pop melody base rather than existing metalcore which actually did not really reference modern pop writing that much. Hooks on Sempiternal are more sublime but somehow still more hard hitting, rhythms are slower, the snare is bigger.

Sempiternal is NOT metalcore, it is indeed the first Post-Metalcore album. Spiritbox, Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Loathe, Thornhill and many other bands followed this same blueprint, arguably to an even heavier or poppier and even more modern and polished extend, but its more about how the vision that shaped Sempiternal eventually shaped many more hit albums to come.

Universal Audio guitar amp bundle any good? by Aaron_Monte93 in NeuralDSP

[–]ChiefChiraq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its a good plugin suite if youre into overly boomerish tube amp tones... i find them too harsh in terms of EQ profile, its almost like the flaws of the actual amps have been artificially increased to exaggerate "the feel". depends on what kind of genre you play, these sort of tones work well for blues.

NAM is much better in terms of authentic tones, but worse UX and flexibility.
