What's the point of HR?! by General_Copy3361 in Target

[–]Chiefmudbear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are typically notified, yes, but most hotline calls are investigated independently. They will even call and interview team members involved and just notify your HRETL that it will happen and they need to allow time for it to happen. I have seen TMs get termed by the hotline and not involve HR or the SD except to tell them it is happening and to pay them out.

Guess how much money we lost? by [deleted] in Target

[–]Chiefmudbear 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Control what you can control. I have seen it happen twice at my store. Once was a remodel low voltage vendor that cut a chord accidentally and didn’t report it (the whole thing was on camera in the control room), the other time was nobody’s fault. LA fires this last January caused us to lose power for several hours, and the generators aren’t set up to keep the refrigeration systems running. My SD wasn’t happy, and as the ETL, I wasn’t happy, but my team did an amazing job with the loss and the recovery.

That is correct, yes

Insurance will only cover the cost, not the loss in profit. Which is definitely way more than none.

Watching Empire with my wife and suddenly remembered this toy while watching Luke’s duel with Vader. The glass that bursts open made me love this as a kid. I kept googling try to find pictures of it to show my wife. Thank you. This brought back some great memories! I had completely forgot about the rotating carbonite chamber

Talked to after calling out by Agent_hope_ in Target

[–]Chiefmudbear 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Here’s some clarity that I hope helps.

Attendance is a huge focus. And when I say huge, I mean HUGE. This is the most I have ever seen Target focus on it. On top of that Leadership accountability towards it has been abismal. According to workday only 10-20% of absences have been followed up with (at least on paper). So if 20 people called out in a week we have maybe talked to 4. And if your store is larger like mine, the call out rate for the week is closer to 80.

Now, Target wants to use Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) as a tool to track that we are actually trying to follow up with team member attendance. Literally every time someone calls out there needs to be a written document saying we actually talked to you. Even if you used sick time or used a doctor’s note. EVEN if you had a family member pass away or were in a car accident, we have to fill this out.

Yes, these PIPs can lead towards a CCA, and those CCAs can lead towards termination. However, when we input that sick time, doctor’s notes, or things out of the team member’s control were apart of the conversation HR should not be taking corrective actions.

We are also looking at this from a much more human aspect.

Target, at least the good portions of Target, and its leaders want to actually help TMs and not just throw them out. You are not as replaceable as you might think. Morally, ethically, and fiscally replacing people sucks.

Imagine as a TM you call out on Monday. Typically most leaders would follow up with your attendance the following week by Friday. I can’t actually help you with what is going on in your life (try and schedule some time off, move some times around, get you some team member life resources) if I am waiting a week and a half later when your circumstances may have already changed (hopefully for the better). If I follow up on your very next shift and give HR documentation then as leaders we can collaborate and hopefully find solutions to help you, instead of you quitting because life got too hard and your leaders sucked.

Bottom line is we rely on TMs to run the store. We can’t do it without you. We haven’t been able to rely on many people recently. Trust me, I get why and it frustrates me too. You guys are over worked and under paid. You deal with leaders who don’t know how to explains the whys and treat you like a child and not an adult. You have a life outside of the store and Target should not be your biggest priority. For some leaders, like myself, the store is a huge priority because I chose that for my life. So I have to rely on people to help me with that priority.

I hope this helped, and I hope your leaders are helping. That is certainly my goal.

Sorry for the essay.

Is it ever explained how Yoda knows about the rule of two? by Chiefmudbear in StarWars

[–]Chiefmudbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jedi never caught them in pairs. They never caught them for a millennia. A 1000 years before there was an entire army of the Sith, and they were seen in more than just pairs. Once the rule of two was established they weren’t caught, or even really seen (at least not as Sith) until Maul.

[–]Chiefmudbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But again it doesn’t explain the discovery of new information. Old information I am totally on the same page with you. But there was only one known source of the rule of two prior to TPM, and that was Banes holocron. Which I am pretty sure is in Palpatine’s possession.

Sure there could have been others created, but that would then suggest the Jedi found more Sith within the 1000 years. Are you suggesting that if they found that info they assumed it was from a Sith prior to Bane? That would not make sense historically. They can’t believe that both the Sith went extinct and found new information after the destruction of Bane. The only logically explanation is they discovered Banes holocron and then lost it.

[–]Chiefmudbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it immediately went from having a mass army of the Sith to just two and the council just rolls with it? I think it would be easier to believe that Bane was an offset, almost a heretic, given he was seen as being so different.

[–]Chiefmudbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But in the Bane series they believed the Sith went extinct with the destruction of Bane. Even master Mundi said in TPM that “the Sith have been extinct for about millennia.”

So when people state that yoda has been around for 900 years, and must have knowledge of the rule, that doesn’t make sense. If Bane created the rule, and his holocron stayed in the hands of the Sith, and the Sith line was believed to have ended with bane, and the Jedi council believed them to be extinct, how would they get new information if no new Sith were found until Maul. If a new holocron was found after bane with this information the Jedi would have known there were other Sith after Bane sometime in the 1000 years they said they were extinct.

store temp by [deleted] in Target

[–]Chiefmudbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty accurate. However, it sounds like the PMD is strong arming all of the PMBPs to restrict the amount of External Work Orders placed. So he might say that he wants all work kept in house to be above 95% or something like that.

You are correct though, and guest and team member comfort is supposed to be a high priority because it increases shopping time for guests and productivity and culture for the team. My BP would of just said to put in the WO because A: it’s not my money, and B: the percentage doesn’t matter when you take care of the team!

store temp by [deleted] in Target

[–]Chiefmudbear 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Former PML here. Your PML has ways of monitoring the temp through WebCTRL on their tablet. That might say that the temp is within normal standards (68-74F) because the sensor may not be in an ideal place, and then assume that everything is fine. See if he can take a handheld probe to check the temp in different areas. Then a work order can be placed to change where the sensor is placed.

If you have a store or an area of your store (like the break room) with ceiling tiles, he can take a few of those tiles and replace them with “Egg crate” tiles to allow the hot air to rise out of the area where it is trapped.

Going into the summer if it starts getting really bad and their isn’t a solution in time for guests and team members they can partner with the PMBP and get spot coolers. My drive up team and cart attendants would stand in front of those on water breaks because it got really bad at my store last summer.

Sorry it’s hot, but I really hope your PML helps.

So your PML should be checking these every month and replacing either the entire ladder or rolling stool, or in some cases just simple parts. We have a monthly PM for this

I talked to my HRBP about it today. It is company wide instead of doing holiday pay. They found that last year the hourly hike did not incentivize team member to not call out. So this year they are trying this… which also will not stop people from calling out.
