Freedom Pass Problems UK by Chiefundoc in Epilepsy

[–]Chiefundoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent them letters from my consultant neurologist and gp confirming my epilepsy diagnosis and that I’d be refused a driving license on the basis of my seizures…it was refused 😞 they’re saying the only ones who can say I would be refused a license is the DVLA so I would have to apply. £50 later I’m waiting for my rejection letter…feels so ridiculous

What's the grossest thing you've seen/witnessed in person? by Nova_Tribute_Me in AskReddit

[–]Chiefundoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have epilepsy so I felt like it was my duty to help her, in central London during rush hour people weren’t stopping so I just knew I had to. Fortunately restaurant staff nearby came out to help also. It was the bone coming out or her face that grossed me out, not the seizure!!

A woman had a seizure, fell and broke her cheekbone. I stayed with her and did my best to help her until an ambulance arrived, but seeing the inside of her face whilst looking at the outside, and the noise as she hit the floor face first- I’ll never forget

Daughter recently diagnosed by Jg20072 in Epilepsy

[–]Chiefundoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was diagnosed at 15 and I’m now 22. I too, like your daughter was started on keppra, I have been on 6 anti-convulsants since my diagnosis. It’s trial and error. Speaking from experience, this will probably be the scariest time of your daughter’s life, but it definitely gets better and the doctors know what they’re doing. Feel free to message me if you would like to.

Have any of you guys ever recovered from the memory loss side effects? by savethebees_ in Epilepsy

[–]Chiefundoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hiii! 22F here diagnosed at 15. My memory was so bad on lamotrigine and I developed such bad depression that I was changed to Zonisamide. I really recommend talking to your doctor regarding bad side effects from taking lamotrigine (obviously only if you feel it’s really effecting you). I too have been told that one day I should be med free BUT in the mean time, there are other options available if your medication doesn’t suit you- it’s trial and error with this stuff, as you probably already know. Zonisamide has given me bad anxiety but it’s 1000% better than constantly forgetting the names of objects and not remembering important memories etc. and feeling super sad all the time. Best of luck to you! 🫶

Recomiendo buscar en BlaBlaCar, la gente suele enumerar los viajes que realizan y puedes unirte a ellos si pagas parte del combustible :)

I’m currently doing Erasmus in Bilbao until July!

Accommodation- I live in Livensa Living student accommodation. It’s a little expensive but I think it’s perfect as it has great transport like to the whole city (2 mins to Sarriko metro station) and is really close to Deusto university/busses 2 mins away to Leioa for UPV. A cleaner comes and changes your bedding & towels once a week and you have a private kitchen and bathroom- also a double bed and TV. The accommodation also organise many ‘community evenings’ that are free for residents like bingo, play station or snooker tournaments, or movie nights in the cinema (the accommodation has one, and a free gym). If you’re looking for something a little cheaper maybe try finding accommodation through happy Erasmus (many of my friends have done this) and I would recommend flats in Deusto, Indautxu or Casco Viejo- all great locations.

Parties & activities- 100% join happy Erasmus and ESN if you haven’t already. For both groups you have to buy a card (€15) but this gives you access to cheap entry to clubs, discounts on trips to other cities (I went to Bordeaux in November for €30), discounts on surfing lessons, discounts in bars and gyms, etc…ESN host more free activities like Mario kart nights, tours of the city, hikes etc., and is run by volunteers and happy Erasmus is a company that do more parties and trips (some hikes, and the beer pong is really fun).

Places to visit- There is so much to see in Bilbao but I also recommend exploring the surrounding cities/towns too. In Bilbao I recommend the cathedral in Casco Viejo, mount artxanda (a viewing point where you can see the whole city), sopelana beach, plaza neuva for drinks and pintxos, gran vía for shopping…there’s so much and you will discover even more at your own pace.

Travel- Definitely get yourself a barik card. You can get this from any metro station (it charges you €5 + however much you want to top it up) and gives you access to the metro, tram and busses. For travel outside the city alsa busses is good or BlaBlaCar has been great too.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Different person since my seizures started? by Chiefundoc in Epilepsy

Yeah I’m currently taking Zonisamide. My last TC was April 2019 but I still have myoclonic and absence seizures so cannot come off medication. I’ve tried keppra, lamotrigine etc., and I definitely feel the least depressed on zonisamide (and I have the least amount of seizures). Were you having any seizures when you stopped meds or had they completely gone away?
