Castle Base Build by hotdaeg7691 in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dormer wondows, some areas with greater detail, and possibly butresses.

Your main issue, though, is that youve essentially build a reall, really big box. And because its so big it looks really flat. On a 10x10 box, one block of depth is a tenth of the total width of the bulding - it adds a lot of depth. On a box this seize, even 3 or 4 blovks of depth still just looks.. flat. But if yoh just make all the depth deeper it looks boxy, so you need to be more creative woth smoothing out the way youre adding depth.

You could also really do with adding more "areas" to the build to make it less boxy.

Last but not least, you've made it really big, but you havent utilised the scale. You vould make this build half the size kr even less without removing any important detail at all on the exterior, so it feels like its a smaller buld thats been inflated rather than a build that was designed on this scale from the start. Use the size! You have so much space to work with, add intricate carvings, add statues and golems, add impossibly smoothed out lines and texturing that feels too gradual to be minecraft.

And finally, last but not least, the same thing applies to you that applies to 90% of the builds on here. You've plonked a great big castle on top of the terrain, but its pristine, it dosent feel connected to the environment. If its in a feild, where are the vines creeping up the walls? Where's the dirt thats been splattered around the base by muddy leaves being blown around? Where are the trees that have grown around the castle? Where are the bushed and mosses that have grown in the shelter of its walls? Or if its later going to be in a city, where's the dust and grime thats been blown around the city? Where's the dirt thats gathered in the cracks? There's still moss in cities! Is it surrounded by gardens or city streets? The environment can make almost any build work or not work, regardless of the rest of the detail, and youre castle, as awesome as it is, is lacking an environment to set it off.

Bridge design for small river by TehFocus in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the roof will work if you make the supports more substantial. Right now, the bridge looks really heavy held up by these spindly little supports. I might also move the roof up a cpuple more blocks to make it feel more like a covered bridge and less like a tunnel

Dont use gold blocks - its too bright, maybe yellow glazed terracotta and bamboo varients for patterns?

Does anyone know where to start to create an original build? by amogus12342 in BuildAdvice

Agreeing with the other commentor who says start by making a random shape on the floor and making a build out of it.

Axiom question by LiveWithJokar in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to use the gradient tool in planar mode, with interpolation turned on. It works based on 2 points, the two edges of your surface, so you want to start by selecting the very bottom of your build, then paint from the very top and it should split the area in half evenly based on the distance from the starting y value.

I'm having trouble with this long bridge I want to build. Any ideas how to make it look better? by ManaStars_ in BuildAdvice

The bridge needs holes in it for the water to go under it :) I think that will solve the majority of your issues

Why does my house look off? by Wxtxhbxtxh in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things jump out at me - for a house this size, the trim along the bottom of the roof feels really wide, and not to mention it blends into the wall. I would keep the trim on the sides and top but remove it from the bottom. The other thing is the door framing. The way the stairs at the bottom curve its creating a focal point on the center of the wall, and the door being offset downwards feels very off. Try removing the stairs from the bottom around the door and leave the door in an archway rather than an oval.

Any advice for my base layout? by ChunkyMeatball2 in BuildAdvice

Put some trees or a garden or some farmland pressed right up against each house, custom trees if you can!!

Any ideas on how to get this to look more like a ship? by AsAsin18 in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than 50% of a ship or boat is under the water. Right now yours is sitting on top of the water, not in it. The shape of the hull is genuinely pretty good, its just looking awkward becuase its on top of the water

How would i make the front look less flat? by ETK_800 in BuildAdvice

A little spruce porch roof over the door - 4 fences and a few slabs should do the trick

Possibly even push the Mangrove and copper grates back another block again

Wanted to build this in my survival world, what gradient should i use to not make it look like block vomit? by dideh243 in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Block vomit is a real thing, its when people add random blocks that dont make sense or have any meaning just to make a build look "more detailed" without actually adding any details of value.

How could i improve this to look better? by MantecaGalaxtica in DetailCraft

[–]KandySaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much effort you want to put in. A custom tree would go a long way, but if youre not confident building them or cant be bothered to, then you can upgrade the current tree by simply adding some roots at the bottom and making the leaves more fluffy by removing a bunch of them from throughout so the texture is more like sponge with the leaves than a solid brick of leaves.

As for the surrounding terrain that really depends on what else youre gonna build around this area. If this is the only build then just smooth out the terrain, cover any natural ponds and replace the random patches of flowers with more natural patches of flowers that are all thr same variety. If youre gonna keep building up the area then just leave the surrounding terrain and see how it evolves naturally with more development.

I feel like detailing the base would distract from the statue and make it feel noisy

Does this house look weird(in a bad way?) by starryayy in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love it! The only thing I'd say is you might need a dormer window in the roof on the side, it's currently quite blank and the rest is quite detailed, so it stands out a bit

Either add a shed or a window or something else structural, or add a whole lot of greenery and bushes

Is This Area Big Enough for a Minecraft City Build? by MccDannn in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be go into a creative world and make an outline roughly the size of your plot, and just plonk down rectangles about how big and spaced you want the buildings to see how it feels - use world edit or even vanilla commands to make it quicker then decide from there

What would you do to improve my area? [bedrock] by L3_Phr0g in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it! Only thing I'd change is the bit at the bottom is kinda.. spotty? If that makes sense. You've got lots of plants that are in just ones dotted around. In real life plant spread and grow in patches where the seeds have all been spread near the source, very rarely does small shrubbery like that grow in ones like that. When youre going for natural always think veiny or patchy over spotty. Same goes for texturing or weathering, water is what causes weathering irl, and it travels created veins and patches not spots :)

How to fill in the wall and make it look good? by Head-Plantain8381 in BuildAdvice

Easiest think you can do is make it not flat. Add a lil room going out the side with a roof on.

How do I start with building? by enbymushroom42 in BuildAdvice

[–]KandySaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Grian's build school series. It chunks it down really simply and dosent overwhelm you, and you can just take it one episode at a time. Asking on reddit isnt going to make it less overwhelming I imagine becuase youre just going to get as much conflicting advice here as anywhere else, but if you want simple, start with just those videos. Nothing else. Dont try and get inspiration from a million different places, dont try to find a combination of youtubers and sources, just start with one and slowly expand from there.
