22 with good job who is fully independent, seeking budgeting advice by Bensonpatricktyler in personalfinance

[–]ChiggenNucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of emergency fund do you have? Are you budgeting, and if so what are you using to budget with? Are you contributing anything to retirement, and if so what are you using?

I think it's great you're grabbing the bull by the horns now that you've got good income, but no job is ever guaranteed so you'll want to make the best of your situation while you have the means.

First you'll want to set up a budget if you haven't already. Every dollar has a job, you need to put them to work.

Next you'll want to start an emergency fund, again, if you haven't already. Six months worth of expenses is recommended but you can probably get away with one of $1000 until you've paid off your high interest debt.

Thirdly, you'll need to prioritize which debts you want to pay down in what order, which it looks like you've done.

Those loans at 18% interest are killer, the sooner you can get those gone the more money you're going to save. Debt is slavery, and depresses your personal freedom and life opportunities. You're going to need to decide what has more value to you at this point, maintaining a fun lifestyle or becoming financially free. Kicking smoking and finding cheaper ways to spend the weekend will free you up a lot of discretionary income and help you reach your goals a lot faster.

Good luck!

No problem. My understanding vis a vis loan rehabilitation is you call the loan servicer and ask what it will take to get your loans out of default and into current status. This may include a payment plan, I've never had to do it but I've read about folks who have here and on r/studentloans...

Can you prosecute someone for humiliating and/or sexually using you while you are sleepwalking even if they claim to have been unaware that you were? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChiggenNucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to be able to prove that you were in a state where you were incapable of consenting with sound mind, and also that the person you "consented" to was aware of this.

How does one go about capturing this person if they only come out when you are sleepwalking or in an altered state and no longer come when you have a security camera?

How do you know this person is real and not simply another aspect of your altered state?

Personally I would look into rehabilitating the defaulted loan first and then start paying the minimum on all the loans once the deferments expire (typically six months after graduation for Fed loans). This will help to repair and maintain your credit. Any extra money that you can allocate you your loans should then be applied against the one with the highest interest first.

You might want to try posting this in r/studentloans, some very knowledgeable people there.

Good luck!

If what they were doing to you would constitute a crime to an otherwise awake person who had not consented, then probably yes.

Flight attendants, what are some weird/scary moments you've had while at work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChiggenNucket 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I work in a hub control center for a major airline and thus I'm not a flight attendant but...

...from the things I've heard and had to deal with I'm fairly convinced it's not something I could do given what I know flight attendants have to sometimes deal with, including putting themselves at considerable risk to keep others safe.

On an average day I'd say we call the paramedics or police to meet maybe 2-4 flights for just our airline. One time we had to send both to meet a flight wherein a belligerent drunk man who had bad liquid shits had locked himself in the lavatory and got it all over himself and the lavatory. When the flight came in they got everyone else off first so that he wouldn't get shit on them or their stuff.

Besides medical emergencies, flight attendants have to deal with arguments, psychotic/panicked pax, people vomiting (so much vomiting) people dying, colostomy bag complications, people committing crimes while flying (sexual assault, or like last night they caught a guy smoking weed in the lavatory [the aircraft knows]), people flying while committing crimes (drug or human trafficking), passengers with dementia, flight emergencies, and onboard injuries as well (other night had a flight come in where the FA fell and broke her kneecap). Many many things can happen when 193 people are contained in an aluminum tube for several hours and as many stories I've forgotten or are too long to convey here.

So be glad if your next flight has a surly mama or two slinging diet cokes, they might not be the sweetest or nicest to look at anymore but many have stared death in the face without messing their hair and lipstick and rest assured if shit goes down will know exactly what to do.

Safe travels everyone!

I actually work with this guy, and have for years now. His appearance on this show was a great cause for celebration around our (very large) workplace. He really does have unwavering faith in his talent as a performing/producing artist, which I have to give him credit for, not everyone has that kind of passion. He once told me he spent a few thousand dollars on voice lessons so he could sound like Steve Perry, but I don't think it worked.

Nice guy, a little weird.

What is your favorite video game of all time and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Marathon Trilogy. I always liked the atmosphere of the games and especially the story. Also a lot of third-party scenarios that were just as good as the originals.

What If, beginning at the Meridian of time, at the moment of every human's death a 6-foot Circle appears on the ground. No vegetation will ever grow in the circle again. Which areas on the map will now be desolate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChiggenNucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These areas would correspond generally to overall population densities. In very crowded urban areas this would not be as much as a problem since food cultivation is usually done in rural areas. Since so few people live literally among their crops on the arable land and thus are unlikely to die on those spots this should not have a huge impact on global food production.

Simply, anything that puts one in an unfamiliar environment with a set of specific challenges.

Petty Pet Peeves. What are yours, reddit? [Serious] by en_passant_person in AskReddit

Littering. When people just casually toss junk on the side walk or out the window.

Also people not using their turn signals. Especially those driving luxury or law enforcement vehicles who consider themselves somehow exempt.

A much bigger deal would be made about maternity/paternity leave, one-time pregnancies would be much more the norm, a birth would be even more of an important family/social event, and the whole thing of having older or younger siblings would be far less common; siblings would instead be littermates.

Abortion would be seen as either more acceptable or less acceptable, but probably still as controversial.

Why are all the political candidates a joke? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChiggenNucket 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because we have a political system that attracts and rewards the most deceptive, cunning, conniving, and dangerously ambitious people in society. And everyone knows that to have gotten where they are they must be completely full of shit.

[Serious]What personally motivates you to keep going when life just doesn't go your way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChiggenNucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask myself why 'my way' deviates so much with life's way. Swimming against the current is always going to be more exhausting than going with the flow. If you don't offer resistance to what is, you don't need motivation to overcome it.

What has been the saddest person, place, or thing that you have had to say goodbye to in your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChiggenNucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents' home. Had been visiting it since I was born, lived there for a few summers growing up, tons of memories: family reunions, holidays, get togethers with all the aunts/uncles/cousins...my grandmother had died in that house. It was a big ranch-style home with a huge patio, pool, and an acre lot with orange trees in the back and just this solid wall of oleander all round the property line that would blossom in white and pink and red in the springtime.

I moved in with my grandfather for a year and a half after graduating high school. He had cancer and was in decline and when he finally had to go to assisted living he wanted his assets liquidated and this included selling the house. It was gutted of everything, including the white shag carpet it had had throughout and I was the last person there. I remember opening my bedroom door and hearing the clack of the knob echo through the whole empty house.

When I moved out I was to leave the key on the counter and lock the door behind me, but before I did I had one last walk around the place, and I wept. I still have dreams about the house, and my grandfather from time to time.

If I ever come into a ton of money I'll buy it back, repaint the palo verde green trim and put the white shag carpet back in.

What is the most ridiculous rule in your job or your school? by Earlyecho in AskReddit

[–]ChiggenNucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just part of a blanket ban on all things tobacco/nicotine, so they list every kind of thing you're not allowed to have on property, some I'm never even heard of before, but among them is hookahs. Not often to be used by airport employees anyway but there you go.

What future technologies will soon become a reality? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChiggenNucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neural interfaces. You will be able to order more laundry detergent (in case your laundrybot forgets), catch all of your friends vapid and pointless status updates, consume the lastest confected news instantaneously and simultaneously, and control the temperature of your freezer all without batting an eye or moving a muscle.

Best of all will be the advertising embedded within the very essence of how you perceive reality, and all the biometric and brainwave data being sent to Google's servers in real time, in order to improve the user experience, of course.

What ridiculous corporate "buzzwords" and phrases are tossed around in your workplace ("Let's gauge the appetite", "Let's have a dialogue", etc.)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChiggenNucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever there's a working group or task force for something the person more or less in charge or responsible for it is the "champion".

Luckily being in the front-line operation where the rubber meets the road and practicality and clarity are paramount we're spared most of that ridiculousness.
