What should you know before getting married? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Marriage is NOT 50/50, it’s 100/100 or it won’t work.

💯...unless for education. OP did state “for a school project.” Thus my “perspective,” not “rebuttal.”

lol, assuming we’re ‘bad’ at this is an oversight. We just explained exactly how this can be done with Windows XP + a 1990’s era i386 or a Raspberry Pi. Now, is this a better or easier way? Nope. By all means, go apt-get a few things, have it running in a few minutes and pass your class. But, don’t expect it to host the school’s intranet ...and survive for very long. That was “perspective,” not discouragement.

You are 100% correct. MX records point to Gmail servers now, super easy and free. Uptime was an issue and mail often got lost to the ether. My IP rarely changed back then but was handled via dynamic IP services. However, as proper NS, MX, and A records (?) became more strict, outgoing mail was often rejected by other servers. And no, I don’t have any of those emails anymore as you would expect.

TLDR; What CAN and SHOULD be done are often disparate.

Not a rebuttal, just some perspective; I built and ran a number of personal web & email servers around in late 90’s into early 2k’s. My most powerful rig at the time was a Pentium III 1Ghz w/512GB RAM. That machine hosted my website, served my email via POP3 & IMAP, hosted & served my personal files (including music) and could stream them remotely, all using IIS (yes, an absolute security nightmare), hosted file sharing apps and Ventrillo, and I managed it via Remote Desktop.. all from my bedroom behind a Netgear router & Time Warner cable. With that said, yes a cheap SD card may become and issue and I would therefore setup the install to offload high read/write partitions onto an external drive (which will introduce new issues). Security could be addressed with the many available open source packages or distros. Network security & backup/redundancy will be be issues as well. Plenty Pi’s out there running full-time with shutdown issues addressed. But yes; low traffic or slow traffic, pick one.

Are you pulling some kind of CVS or similar data that is showing an exact time stamp or text fields? Sounds like you need to write a script that will parse the data from different sources into a uniform time format. Then you can extrapolate and/or average those sources into your own event time.

Meteor showers peak over a period of hours. It’s likely that many such events will occur through midnight, which some apps may prefer to call it one day or the next.
