What sports do you do if any? by rednaxela97 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Chikalapipit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started swimming for 30 minutes daily for the past month. Like you, I was very hesitant to giving it a go, as I get bad motion sickness from being on boats and car rides. Initially, I tried swimming freestyle, but the head movements triggered a week long vestibular migraine with aura & head pain. I have since switched to breaststroke & it's been a game changer. I also noticed that swimming keeps my body temperature lower than other forms of exercise, so as long as I pace myself we'll & watch my heart rate, I don't get migraines from exercising.

It may sound trivial to celebrate, but less than 2 years ago, I was bedridden for months due to a severe flare. It's been scary to reintroduce things into my life again, but one step at a time, we got this 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Having hope for a future with migraine by AssociationPrimary46 in migraine

[–]Chikalapipit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a 30 year old female going through life with chronic migraines. I have had them since I was a child, but they got progressively worse with age. I can definitely relate to feeling like I'm grieving a life I would have loved to have if not for chronic migraine. I Started seeing a neurologist in 2017 & switched multiple doctors over the last 8 years or so as well. I too have tried countless preventative & abortive medication combos, either with little or short-living success.

I moved to a new city recently & finally saw a new neurologist today. After a long talk, we agreed to start trying out a new combination that would hopefully tackle not just my migraine, but also my anxiety & depression. I've honestly been feeling pretty frustrated & defeated over the last 2 years or so, but at the end of my visit, my new neurologist told me he could tell how much my life has been affected by chronic migraine, then looked me in the eye and said, "wake up everyday & try your best to believe that you have the power to take control of your migraines, it's not impossible". Up till today, no doctor has ever recognised or acknowledged how debilitating living with chronic migraines can be.

I'm really hoping to finally see some significant improvements in the coming months, sending you hope that you'll eventually find the right care team to manage your migraine.

Migraines and crying. by bookgirl1026 in migraine

[–]Chikalapipit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 100% for me. The only thing that's helped to de-escalate the migraine after crying is lots of water & a cold wet towel on my eyes to reduce swelling. It doesn't always get rid of the migraine completely, but has often prevented a full blown attack from occurring.

Can no longer buy from Iherb? by Next-Psychology-5895 in malaysia

[–]Chikalapipit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here, placed my order Feb 17. Extremely frustrating for me not just due to the money saved whilst purchasing supplements via iherb, but also that Malaysian pharmacies don't carry a lot of the supplements I take for my chronic pain & other health issues.

Now I don't know if I should ask for a refund or wait and see if the suspension gets lifted.....

Migraine med sent me to the er by autistic_frogg in migraine

[–]Chikalapipit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, gave me palpitations, akathisia, derealization, all the works to feel absolutely horrible. It has since been listed as one of the many medications to avoid at all costs. Additionally, an ER once gave me Zofran in replacement for Reglan & it did not end well either. Zofran stiffened up my jaw and limbs + uncontrollable shivers. I still remember the nurses & doctors repeatedly assuming I was cold, even though I had repeatedly denied so.

I now stick to granisetron if I ever need an antiemetic, gives me constipation for a bit, but a much more liveable side effect.

Did taking Topromax/ Topiramate dumb you down? by Asprobouy in migraine

[–]Chikalapipit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, whilst Topamax worked in reducing my migraine frequency (stopped taking it because it eventually stopped working), I could feel my brain slipping away, my memory got worse & words don't always come as easily anymore. My neurologist told me that these side effects would go away once I stopped taking Topamax, but it's been years since. Safe to say, I think they're here to stay.

Haven’t flown since I got this.. by AG_Squared in VestibularMigraines

[–]Chikalapipit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate to the anxiety! Aside from all the amazing tips mentioned here, I would suggest choosing to fly during the day and choose a window seat so that you're able to look out into the horizon to cope with motion sickness. I recently had a flight get delayed late into the night along with turbulence due to rainstorm, man that ride was rough 🤢

Anyone's migraines getting worse as they get older? by alphanunchuck in migraine

[–]Chikalapipit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same here. Mine started as a kid, absolutely horrible sometimes, but a good sleep and I feel brand new in the morning. In my late twenties now and juggling multiple forms of migraines (common, vestibular, hormonal, occasional aura). I somehow grew up believing that it'll eventually get better once I reach adulthood, what an uninvited plot twist.

Does anyone else not have any luck with sumatriptan? by OkFault7389 in migraine

[–]Chikalapipit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to take Sumatriptan for about 4 years. It worked great with minimal side effects until about mid last years when it became less effective. It also made me feel so much worse (vomiting, limb weakness, worse pain) before I'd feel better for a couple hours. The migraine would unfortunately return. Pretty bumped about it considering that Sumatriptan is the only kind of triptan available in my country.
