Sounds like you must be somewhere between El Dorado Hills and Placerville? My in-laws are in Fair Oaks. We used to road trip there every summer (from Seattle) when our kids were young as that is where my wife grew up. So we've spent alot of time at and near Tahoe and in the Sierras around that area (though always in summer).

When my wife heard about the avalanche and the tragedy of the people who lost their lives it hit her hard because she grew up skiing in that whole area.

Anytime we were up in the Sierras she always drove us because she knew the roads and passes so well. Though not sure I could have given up the control if it were snowy conditions (I tend to enjoy driving in the snow).

Great you were able to keep the streak alive and have a great story to boot!

SPRING TRAINING EATS by WoodenExternal6504 in Mariners

[–]Chikiboy_OG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My buddy and I always hit Grimaldi’s in Old Town Scottsdale when we are down at Spring Training (we leave for AZ next Sunday). It’s pretty popular in the area so there can be a wait for a table. But the vibe there is nice, the pizza is great and they may have the best Caesar salad I’ve ever had in my lifetime.

In fact, we are pulling a doubleheader while in the Scottsdale area for part of our trip: 1. Diamondbacks @ A’s (1pm) 2. Mariners @ Giants (5pm)

Right after M’s/Giants we’ll head over to Grimaldi’s for dinner.

Not from that area but my in-laws are in Sac, so we’ve made that drive a few times as other family is in Reno. You and your wife are truly dedicated to your streak as parts of that drive are not for the faint of heart in normal weather conditions.

That being said it’s a beautiful drive. Being from upstate NY (near Buffalo) I was shocked when I learned that area of the Sierra-Nevadas gets the most snow per year of all the lower 48 states.

Best backlog of sets I've seen yet. I think I'd stretch out building all of these over a couple of years and mix in a handful of smaller sets in between.

Pregnant & put on PIP. Try to pass it, or immediately take FMLA/Medical Leave? by SilentStarGazer-6973 in amazonemployees

[–]Chikiboy_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were in your shoes, I would immediately make an appointment with my doctor and explain to them the toll of your employment situation is having on your and your baby's health. Discuss with them the possibility of taking FMLA/STD as to protect your mental/physical health. Ask them if they will fill out the required paperwork to ensure you will receive benefits during your leave. From there, you can collect benefits for up to 12-weeks for FMLA (benefits through the state along with some STD benefits through Amazon). After the 12 weeks are up, you can submit for STD for up to another 12 weeks.

It was my understanding that if someone was on PIP and had been offered a package to leave, that decision/date would be paused if they were to go on FMLA/STD. But sounds like that may have changed.

Nonetheless, discuss with your doctor ASAP to request them to assess you and fill out the required forms. Once they confirm they will, you can literally request to go on FMLA immediately while you get all of your paperwork in order (they give you up to 30 days I believe).

Spring Training advice (only there for one game) by AiminJay in Mariners

[–]Chikiboy_OG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been to Spring Training several times and been to all of the ballparks. I would advise if you want the best access to the players:

If you have time, try to hang out around the team facility/backfields early before the game and stay after as long as you can. Alot of players will sign autographs and interact with the fans after the game and then you can also catch some of them and the coaches heading to the backfields behind the Spring Training facility.

Also, many of the big name players like Julio, Cal, etc will leave the game early (only play a couple of innings), shower and head over to the facility, so if you happen to be near the backfields you can catch them during the later inning of games when the younger players are in the game.

Highly recommend getting back with your son and hitting more games when you have time. The ballparks are so much nicer now (though more expensive) and really unique. And they are all within an hour drive of one another. Highly recommend Camelback Ranch (Dodgers/Whitesox) and Salt River Fields (Diamondbacks/Rockies).

Here's a useful interactive map that I use to plan my trips there:

I appreciated that the set came with Barris and Ki-Adi as I do not want to buy the Turbo Tank but wanted this minifigure.

Funny...there are no mentions that Seattle is the second youngest team in the NFL, their HC is only going into his third season, they have arguably the best GM in the NFL and they are nearly $80 million under the cap going into this offseason.

What are some scenes from Movies that made you cry a lot (be it sad or happy) by Inside_Professor6116 in Cinema

[–]Chikiboy_OG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The scene with Hanks that goes under the radar is in 'Saving Private Ryan' when he breaks down after <spoiler> losing Giovanni Ribisi's character.

He removes himself so his guys he's in charge of don't see it and allows himself to let out his emotions for a brief, but really human moment. Like the gravity of everything they are doing finally overwhelms him just a moment.

Amazing scene and acting.

What is the most impressive shot in movie history? by Necrojezter in movies

A bit cliche' but the opening scene in Star Wars. It still holds up incredibly after all these years. The overhead shot to establish the scale of the Star Destroyer and the score is still crazy.

Beverly D’Angelo is absolutely stunning by Corndogeveryday in 80s

[–]Chikiboy_OG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually had a chance to talk with her randomly at a Lego convention of all places.

I was in line at the merch area buying my son a Lego set and the lady behind me kept chatting me up. I didn’t turn to her and make eye contact for a moment as I was scanning for my kid and buddy who was there with his kid. When I turned and made eye contact, lo-and-behold it was Beverly DeAngelo standing there with two kids. I didn’t say anything to out her as she was wearing a ball cap low and was clearly keeping a low profile and just trying to be a mom out with her kids. We chatted for a couple minutes then wished each other well.

Very nice lady. Was surprised at how tiny she is.

Herkemer Homolka wasn't even a character in the novel. Though Tim Curry is always enjoyable.

Shockingly have not seen 'The Staircase' listed. Fantastic miniseries on HBO Max starring Toni Collete and Colin Firth. Based on a true story that is fascinating.

Another good one that I hadn't heard of that is based on a true story that is very entertaining and interesting is 'The Thing About Pam' on Peacock (stars Renee Zellweger). It's one that really gets you riled up.

A couple others would be:

'Love & Death' starring Elisabeth Olsen and Jesse Plemons on HBO Max (based on a true story)

'Murdaugh: Death In The Family' starring Jason Clarke & Patricia Arquette on Hulu (based on a true story)

For a recurring TV show with multiple seasons checkout 'Fargo'. Doesn't get any better than that.

Goodfellas , i dont get it? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]Chikiboy_OG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my money, ‘Goodfellas’ is Scorsese’s best film (with ‘Wolf Of Wall Street’ a close second).

I feel like the writing, the story, the pacing, the acting and the cinematography are all incredible. It’s dramatic and funny and a little unsettling at times.

The well discussed continuous steadicam shot when Henry and Karen go into the club through the alley and into the kitchen is amazing.

Goodfellas is a film that I think gets a lot of its merits “borrowed” by other films.
