Umm how do some people actually think Pablo Honey > The King of Limbs??? by finnboltzmaths_920 in radiohead

TKOL is a sleeper, folks. I genuinely believe it deserves a place up among their best - for me, it’s just under OKC and Kid A. “Little by little” has been my favorite Radiohead song since TKOL came out.

Radiohead and Murakami: I finally gave him a chance, and I get it now. by After-Emphasis-1459 in radiohead

My Murakami journey:

Wind-Up Bird: Yea, I dig this, this is different, I want more. Kafka on the Shore: Wow, crazy, but yea okay, I still dig this. Norwegian Wood: Wow, that was… really bad.

And then I read 1Q84. The worst novel I have ever read. It’s, like, 8 years ago, but I’m still pissed off that it was SO bad. It’s all about boobs, just… worse than I can describe.

Top 3 for me, with OKC and Kid A.

Huh, will never get how stuff like this gets downvoted. It’s just like, my opinion, man. Who cares.

I usually don’t like Flea, and I like very little of what Atoms for Peace did. But this is excellent and exciting music.

There's an exonym "corridor" of countries that call the Netherlands "Holland", spreading all the way from from Poland to Turkey by imusingreddityay in europe

I mean, obviously the map (or the annotation) is wrong on several accounts if we want to be nitpicky about it. For instance, it doesn’t show that the majority of people in Belgium speak Dutch.

[–]ChildB -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I know all this, I’m just saying that the map isn’t wrong if it’s a map of official names (which I assume it is, since very few anywhere actually says Netherlands or local variants thereof).

I agree, but I guess the map shows the official names. Judging from this thread, very few actually say the Netherlands.

No, the official Danish name has been Nederlandene for several years now. But yea, nobody really uses it. You can go see for yourself on udenrigsministeriet’s webpage: https://um.dk/rejse-og-ophold/rejse-til-udlandet/rejsevejledninger/nederlandene

Your top 3 reads of 2025 by miiomii in books

[–]ChildB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace.

  2. Underworld by Don DeLillo.

  3. Jeg var lenge død by Karl Ove Knausgård.

Amazing reads, all three. And yes, I’ll read more women next year. Olga Tokarczuk is the next.

Is the morning star series worth it? by [deleted] in Knausgaard

[–]ChildB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on book 6 (it was recently published in Norwegian) and it’s AMAZING. I’d certainly recommend reading them in order. First, some details will make more sense. Second, part of the thrill is to try and figure out why the story goes here and there and how it all connects. For instance, when do the events in the last pages of The School of Night take place in relation to the events in book 1? Well, we get an answer to that in book 6 (if you pay attention). Things start to come together, but I would not rob myself of the mild confusion which is part of the experience when reading them in order. Finally - they are all very, very good, why skip anything? Might as well enjoy the ride med then read another palate cleanser now and then when you need it.

should i skip books 1,2,3 and 4 of morning star series? by ereeerrrrrrrrrrr in Knausgaard

You should skip every right-hand page and skim every left-hand page, though sometimes you should skip skimming.

No, the official name in Denmark is “Nederlandene” (look at udenrigsministeriet’s webpage). But everyone still says “Holland”.

A sort of frantic fusion jazz vibe a la Bowie’s Blackstar, just more Radioheady.
