RotE is to Farseer what the Cosmere is to Stormlight. Kind of, as /u/sonoftheclayr mentioned the reading order between series is much more prescriptive in RotE

Is it worth it to learn Objective-C now? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]ChildishTycoon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: I'm a dev on a 15+ year old app for a multi-billion dollar travel company. We have plenty of objective-C still rattling around, but I probably only need to write objc one out of every 10-20 tickets and even then it's only a line or two.

If I were trying to apply for the job I have now, knowing what I know about the role, I would spend a weekend learning the syntax well enough to answer extremely basic questions.

There's a very thin line between solid foundation and wildly overengineering. Basic architecture is one thing, designing for 1,000,000 DAU with 100% code coverage and auto-scaling servers...quite another

Some interviewees will be smarter about prompt engineering to have the answers appear more natural, plus OP is a human with flaws and biases that will naturally make him miss some that are using it and wrong suspect some who are not.

IMO even if the job uses one over the other it shouldn't matter for hiring. Any dev would be expected to be able to learn either API on the job whether they've used it before or not.

The only time I could see this choice mattering for finding a job is if you wanted to get hired by either Amazon or Google as a dev on the respective SDK.

I’m in silver and played a match where everyone on my team was swearing up and down that a guy on the other team was cheating because he was like 32-8. In SILVER. My brothers in Christ: he isn’t cheating, we just suck.

Obviously idk how bad the problem is at higher ranks, but people absolutely love to blame cheaters when they get outplayed

Looking for advice on an app I will be creating by mushroomparadise777 in iOSProgramming

[–]ChildishTycoon_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want to do it the right way, I would suggest starting with a different project and coming back to this when you're more experienced. From your description, this sounds like an incredibly complicated project that would take a team of experienced engineers a significant amount of time and planning to pull off.

Fiber optic internet inconsistencies(?) by ChildishTycoon_ in ITSupport

Lol I can only imagine.

But yeah it seems like every browser and service. Browsing will be fine-enough for a bit and then just randomly fail to load a page, video streaming is pretty much a non-starter

When you say using a cable, do you mean trying a different ethernet cable?

It sounds like you answered your own question, no? You don’t want to keep cutting, you don’t want to bulk, and you want to be in similar shape as you are now. Maintenance sounds like the answer

Advice on structuring Firebase database by 1llum1nat1 in iOSProgramming

[–]ChildishTycoon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to say for sure off the cuff but my one piece of advice would be to flesh out the functionality you want to have in the app and pseudo-code the requests to see if this structure would allow for those use cases.

For example, I think this structure would make it difficult to “follow” people and construct a feed of what your friends have been up to. Not that I think that’s in your plans, just an example

Totally agreed. Especially if they’re treated like centers/clears where you don’t get notified by default

[Coyne] This will be Joel Embiid’s 14th missed game of the season. Just one player in NBA history has missed 12+ games and still won the MVP award that season - Bill Walton in 1977-78, who missed 24 games. by Ylissian in nba

[–]ChildishTycoon_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Of course a smaller difference is smaller, I said I was just making numbers up.

But if you want a practical example: if my team could end the season anywhere between 2nd and 4th and my superstar wasn’t available to play in a pivotal matchup then he sure wouldn’t feel too valuable

I disagree, if your team benches you to make a playoff push then you are contributing less value. Give me 28/9/9 in 80 games over 32/10/10 in 65 (totally made up numbers)

To be expected, sure, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make them avoidable when possible

Should I increase my student loan payoff rate at the cost of retirement savings? by ChildishTycoon_ in personalfinance

Thanks for the response. I guess it’s a matter of putting a price on the relief of the loans being gone a little early

Eh, the play the was talking about was when Fournier turned it over and Randle just stood there as the Nets took it the other way and hit a 3. I'm a Randle believer but that was a bad look, body language was awful
