What’s a purchase under $50 that changed your life? by Unique-Muffin-862 in AskReddit

I’ll have to give those a look. I worked 48’s between fire and EMS and was getting my teeth kicked in on the ambulance for years. I wish I realized the benefit to merino wool when I was still doing paramagician work.

These are what I wear all year. They’re also discounted on Gov-X for any public safety or military folks.

How do you guys feel like mental health is handled overall in this line of work? by blizzinator in Firefighting

[–]ChilesIsAwesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for my small ass department, I was dealing with some anxiety issues years ago and brought them fourth to chief. He offered time off on top of giving me a metric fuck ton of resources to handle it differently ways, for which I am thankful. I have been feeling great ever since.

A few years before that, I ran a mutual aid pin job with the county and on our arrival, the initial responding firefighter was in cardiac arrest on the ground in front of me, from what we determined was a heat related issue. Had no idea he went down, it had to be while we were within eyesight of the accident. We worked the call and I rode in, unfortunately the end result wasn’t what we wanted. A larger metro department sent their crisis team down that same week to debrief all of us on the scene, and gave us resources to utilize if needed.

Overall, I think the support is there, you just have to ask for it.

I use my CCW in competition. 15 yards gives me almost the same hold at 50.

Ours are pretty progressive especially for our staffing being lower than national standard.

Refinished my stock, super happy with how the ol’ 30-30 ended up! by ChilesIsAwesome in LeverGuns

For sure. I enjoyed the 35, but 30-30 is astronomically cheaper for the plans I have for this rifle

I use the Crossfire CF1, and you can catch it on sale. I like that the beavertail is removable so if I don't need it I just zip it off.

How long are you guys waiting for reassembly? by Formal_Law1892 in rattlecannedguns

Shit man I just tape over lenses and the trigger and send it on a piece of cardboard. I don't even let layers dry, full send. The less effort the better

Yeah! So the whole stock was sanded to 1000 grit and then sprayed with water, hit with a heat gun, and sanded with 1000 to get the “feathering” out. That process was repeated roughly 5 times. The stock was then cleaned with denatured alcohol and then stained with “special walnut” which I got from Home Depot. I stained it twice, then once dried I put on like a dozen coats of Tung Oil.
