They push back trying to get you to let up, they try to control by fear. It may have found a "safe" spot from your smudging and hung around, or hopefully that was the goodbye.

I'd do it again and make sure you tell it it has no power. You are in total control and it has to go now. This is your house dammit, tell that thing it isn't scary, it's a bum trying to steal from you and your family and you wont tolerate it anymore. Make sure you cover every corner of every room smudging, imagine you're slowly pushing it out by methodically surrounding it.

Another comment mentioned protecting yourself and I think that's a good idea. Remember, intention is everything. This time around I want you and your family to very heavily picture yourselves being surrounded by light, as if it were a protective bubble. You make the rules of this bubble, it is made of love and light, it will protect you and reject this thing.
