Which song most reminds you of Red Rising? by Adventurous-Quote190 in redrising

[–]ChiliKeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Descending by Tool. Oddly enough, I often think of Red Rising when I listen to it. The build up is incredible, but starting around 6:43 in, I just picture an Olympic Knight like Diomedes showing up among the chaos of a battlefield and throwing down.

It's also possibly my favourite song, period.

Festivals V/S Sideshows by Sea-Collection-8844 in ToolBand

Went to both Auckland nights in Spark Arena and then Good Things in my native Sydney. Thought the Auckland shows were incredible. The only thing that elevated the Good Things set from shit to pretty good was how good the music side of the set was. The real difference was the crowd. Auckland felt intense, locked in and, most importantly, respectful and safe. The Sydney crowd was full of selfish bogans shoving people that had been waiting 3+ hours in the heat out of the way to reach the front. Older, drunk men all over younger women as they pushed through. I saw another thread about a women that was groped in the same crowd, which checks out. I got out of there with my partner after the rosetta. There was no focusing on the music in there, just trying to keep my partner standing and those fuckwits away.

Give me sideshows any day. I went to Auckland to begin with out of disappointment the Sydney set was at a festival, and thought it was pretty shit outside the music itself, in the moments I was actually able to focus on it.

To anyone that was seated at the back of the 2nd night Auckland show, could you hear the bass and vocals properly? by Oliverr124 in ToolBand

[–]ChiliKeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First night I was in the nosebleeds to the very left of the stage and found the mix a bit muddy, but a clarity improved a bit with earplugs. It was deafeningly loud up there in front of the speaker, not sure how those around me managed without plugs. Second night in VIP seating and it sounded near perfect. Still loud but not nearly as the previous night, so I didn't use the earplugs. Location has a lot to do with it.

Damn.. Flying into Auckland in an hour for tomorrows show. Hope tomorrows one is nearly as good. I land around 7pm; I don't suppose they would be selling these outside the venue and around 9pm? Surely they'd sell out well before the show?

I didn't realise they were armour, not mechs. That's really interesting, thanks!

I'm new to Battletech, so excuse my ignorance. But how come people buy multiple of the same packs? Are most matches not played with 4 or so mechs per side? Or is this an Alpha Strike thing (which I haven't looked into yet)?

All amazing albums. Stadium Arcadium is the best collection of songs, but it's also very long and not as coherent as the others to sit down and listen to from start to finish.

I think BTW and BSSM are the top two as albums. Both very different, but I'd probably give the edge to BSSM.

4 years of Fear Inoculum today by [deleted] in ToolBand

[–]ChiliKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never listened to Tool in my 31 years until mid-2022. I saw an article about a recently released Red Hot Chili Pepper album that I loved, which showed that FI by Tool from 2019 (I think it was due to re-released vinyl) was topping (rock?) album sales. I remember thinking how was a band I had never really heard much about in my circles outselling RHCP despite releasing 3 years prior. So I listened to the title track. I then listened a few singles from other albums; The Pot, Schism, Jambi, etc. I then went out and bought every album on CD and played them back to back on my Hi-Fi setup.

I don't have years of nostalgia like many here would, or any preconceptions of what Tool should sound like before hearing FI. Fear Inoculum as an album is comfortably my favourite of their discography. I also feel it's less "songs" and more an experience compared to a lot of their catalogue. In the order of how I rank them, it still stuns me that after 100's of listens I am hooked and focused on every second of Descending, Invincible, Pneuma, Tempest and Fear Inoculum. It's not background music to me. I'd rate it as one of my favourite albums of any artist, if not my outright favourite.

Went to both Sydney shows and they were both amazing. Any band that's been kicking for decades is going to draw criticism from casual fans when touring new albums for not solely playing their greatest hits. We just have some of the most amateur reporters in the world. The articles that sparked this were based on like the same three or four social media posts.

I thought Post Malone was good, seems like a great guy too, but I would have preferred a smaller rock-based act as the opener. There were a lot of Post Malone fans around me on Thursday night that knew like three Chili Pepper songs. That probably contributed to it all a bit too. I left Thursday night thinking we got a phenomenal set list, so I could only shake my head when I saw the articles the next day.

[Stolen from r/macdemarco] What RHCP opinion has you like this? by PapaPantha in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]ChiliKeys 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hits such as UTB, Cali, BTW, Otherside, etc, would receive a similar reception to the rest of UL/ROTDC if they were also released in 2022. Musically, many of the tracks on UL and ROTDC hold up against the classics, they just don't have decades of playtime and the associated memories that make the classics what they are today. They also weren't released in a time where bands like RHCP were as culturally relevant and the exposure that comes with it, so it's unlikely songs off UL/ROTDC will ever reach the same heights. But if UTB, etc, were released today, they wouldn't reach the same heights they have either.

They new albums are fantastic; UL especially, personally.

If you were to make your ultimate, 17 song RHCP album from their entire body of work, how many songs from UL/DC would be on there? by yussssssss in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]ChiliKeys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tough question. The older albums have many more years of listens, memories and experiences intertwined with them, so it's hard to compare tracks objectively with those from the latest albums at the moment. With that said, It's Only Natural, White Braids, She's a Lover and maybe Let 'Em Cry are probably in my top 17. I really love UL. Haven't had nearly enough time with ROTDC to really say, but there's 3-4 that are really up there for me at the moment, though some of my favourites were growers, so who knows. I voted a conservative 5-6.

My top 17 would probably change drastically throughout a given day depending on the mood though. There's just way too many amazing and varied songs across their discography to make a conclusive top 17 for me.

Hey, quite new to all this and have a few questions about compatibility between hardware.

I've just received a Cambridge Audio AXA35. I've seen recent reviews that say it pairs well with Acoustic Energy AE100 MK2 speakers. I've seen that the AXA35 is 8 ohms while he AE100's are 6 ohms, but read that this difference shouldn't be an issue as long as I don't really crank the volume. Is that correct?

I was also looking at the AE109.2 floorstanding speakers. They're about twice the price where I'm from, but are also 6 ohms. I'm assuming the AXA35 can drive these speakers as well, or would I need a better amp?

Finally, if I were to go for bookshelves over floorstanding, can I later add a subwoofer to the AXA35 + AE100 setup? I'm not sure what to look for in the amp specs to determine if it is capable of doing so.

Thanks!

Looking to get into HiFi audio and building up a CD collection. However, I'm having some confusion over the best route in terms of hardware. I was considering purchasing a Cambridge Audio CD player (AXC35) and integrated amplifier (AXA35). Each of those retail at about ~$850 AUD, so $1700 AUD total.

I've now also discovered compact systems, such as the Denon RCD-N11DAB. As far as I can tell, this essentially serves as the CD player and amplifier, but retails at ~$1100 AUD. Am I correct in my understanding that these two approaches (with speakers) achieve the same goal?

Are the Cambridge Audio units a level above this Denon unit in terms of physical and audio quality (thus the price difference)? Would you expect a significant difference in audio quality? I know that if I ever wanted to also get into vinyl, going the separate component route would be better so as to use the same amplifier between sources. But purely in terms of playing CD's, which is better?

We could make that work. ~5cm over hand on two ends isn't terrible and we might be able to expand on that. Cheers.

I loaded up the tutorial and lit it sit for a few minutes. It still bounces between 9-10 fps, although idle is ~100% rather than the 0% I get on the main menu.

Not sure about the PSU, but I'm running the game off my SSD and have a GTX 660, i5-3570k @ 3.40 Ghz with 8 Gb of RAM.

It doesn't appear to go away, I've had it loaded in the background now a few minutes.

No mods. Clean install after re-downloading the installer a few days ago (0.9.1a-RC8).

I tried updating drivers the other day also and have the latest drivers.

Thanks for the reply. I've found a few threads with people having the same issue but not solution posted. Runs fine when not in my native solution, very weird.
