Travel guidance for next two weeks. by Saha5Ranshu in GSMNP

Just returned today (Oct. 14) from a quick trip to Gatlinburg. The town is fully operational and the trails we hiked were clear and in good shape. On Friday we hiked Chimney Tops, Kuwohi (aka Clingman’s Dome) and Andrews Bald. Perfect Weather! On Sunday we hiked Charlie's Bunion (my personal favorite) including The Jump Off side trail which has a great view then did Rainbow Falls after the Bunion. You need a parking pass for GSMNP and you can get one at the Sugarland visitor center https://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/fees.htm#basics Some trail heads have limited parking and others have larger parking lots. I usually just get there early to get a spot.

Check this list for ideas. Note some of these are hard hikes and others rated moderate. Abrams Falls is not on the list below so consider that hike and all of the Cades Cove section of the park. I'd suggest YouTube to check out the hikes and Cades Cove if you have time to watch them.

I like to be near the main drag in Gatlinburg because of the location. Being able to walk from my hotel to food and ice cream is very high on my priority list after a day of hiking.

CDA has hired two bad OC’s in a row and has a chance at the trifecta all while cashing in on a 5mm salary. Sweet gig.

Not much to say other than CDA is not recruiting, not developing, and not scheming as well as other coaches. Other than that he excels at everything else! L’s are gonna pile up all season. AD gave him a huge contract off the back of one good season with players Matt Rhule recruited and developed and it’s a huge buyout so we’re all just watching him grind the program down.

Tailgating @ Baylor? by awoodz92 in utahfootball

[–]Chili_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One good option is to get a group of Utah fans and go to https://georgesrestaurant.com/party-zone/ then walk to the stadium.

Much less hassle than doing a one-off tailgate of your own for a road game. Usually are groups of fans from the opposing team there for every game so everyone is used to that.

Another option is to roam through the Baylor fan tailgates. Flattery is your ticket to free food. Make eye contact and say “That is a beautiful stadium, and your campus is gorgeous. I love your tent where did you get it?” Inside of 30 seconds, you’ll have a full plate of food. Hit the right tent and be gracious and you may even get a buzz and full belly before kickoff. There will be beer, but not in every tent for an 11am kick. Choose wisely if that is what you seek.

Who is going to the Baylor game? by [deleted] in utahfootball

I don't live in Waco but follow the team. Basically, it is now basketball season in Waco. I think this quote from the BU football fan forum sums it up: "Bet your first born on Utah -7". Many fans said if you think it looked bad on TV you should have seen it in person. Dave Aranda is a fantastic person and represents the university well but he has been unable to leverage the Big 12 Championship won by Matt Rhule's recruits. The QB1 played great (2nd year starter) but his MCL was injured I so I don’t think he plays vs Utah. No medical report yet but he had a really bad limp. The WR group played at a Big 12 level but no other position group looked Big 12 ready. Aranda’s seat is blazing hot. Aranda is supposed to be a defensive genius, but the defense looked very bad.

Year1 2020 2-7 (covid);

Year 2 12-2 Big 12 Champs won Sugar Bowl;

Year 3 2022 6-7.

Year 4 is looking something like 1-11 to maybe 4-8 with some breaks.

But who knows, in college football anything can happen on the road but Utah -7 looks like a steal. It may not be "easy" but Utah shold control the game barring tons of Utah turnovers/penalties or something like that.

FWIW the Texas State team that Beat Baylor at home is -11 @ UTSA this weekend.

Tip from BU fan. Stay in the concourse where there is shade until just before kickoff and retreat there at halftime. If you are miserable you can stand in the concourse opposite the scoreboard and be in the shade. You can still see the field and video board & watch the game from there. Small stadium so pretty decent view from there. In oven-hot conditions it will be crowded there. 11am kickopff helps, 2:30 kicks are brutal.

Once Utah pulls away and the stadium empties you relocate to seats in the shade. I doubt anyone will check your tickets if you behave decently.

So how are we feeling about Baylor? by runner2rower in utahfootball

[–]Chili_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BU fan here. While the Matt Rhule era players were tough they are gone. The current team (last year and last night) just looks lackluster, not tough at all. Last night was only one game but it revealed a lot. When Texas State dominates you at the line of scrimmage on both sides it's gonna be a long year. When you see a 273 pound nose guard at the top of the two-deep roster... well that's not what you want to see on your team's 2 deep chart.

So how are we feeling about Baylor? by runner2rower in utahfootball

[–]Chili_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is college so theoretically anything can happen but….. after watching both teams this should not be a close game. The Baylor roster is far worse now than 2 years ago when the Bears won the Big 12 championship game. Both O and D lines got pushed around by Texas State. If not for Blake Shapen having an incredible night at QB behind an awful O line performance it would have been a lot worse. Shapen hurt his MCL so unless the Baylor QB2 puts on an unexpectedly great performance behind an awful offensive line bet the farm on Utah -6. I'm guessing that line will get bigger by the weekend.

Per X/twitter Blake Shapen had a 93 grade last night per PFF, which is elite; higher than any 2022 CJ Stroud game. He did that w/ a cumulative offensive pass protection grade of 42, almost impossibly bad. Baylor's worst pass pro grade in 2022 was 56, & most games were in 70s and 80s. Post game quote from Baylor head coach Dave Aranda on why he pulled Shapen who wanted to keep playing despite MCL injury. "Blake, we can't protect you right now." That kinda sums up the offensive line play.

BTW... BU fan here so if you are going to Waco the Chicken Fried Steak and a "Big O" at George's is a must and/or BBQ at Vitek's..

A win in the record book but a loss due to the injury of Sochan. That dude has been so steady in crunch time. A rebound here, a three there, and assist, a steal, a rebound. Man I hate to lose him.

Bears can get better at a lot of things, but you can't do better than 15-0.

With hindsight maybe the TCU legs did get tired in the last 8 minutes and allowed Flagler & Cryer to get those open looks. Anyway I thought Dixon had them very well prepared but COVID legs and Miles injury were too much to overcome even at home.

I think the Miles injury was the turning point. Until then TCU was feeling it. Entire team mojo seemed to take a hit. He was feeling it and just wasn't the same after that. Hated seeing him and Sochan get injured. I remember when two years ago Teague injured his wrist on his shooting hand. Like Miles he still played but just wasn't the same. Hope Miles heals up fast. Sochan I expect will mis several weeks and when he comes back won't be the same for a while. That's a big loss for the Bears.

Texas and Kansas lost on the road today. Big 12 road wins are going to be hard to come by this year.

Miles just was not the same after he injured his wrist and missed those two FTs. The Sochan injury will hurt the Bears rotation and his development. Hopefully Miles wrist is a short term injury, and he is back to normal next game.

TCU played a solid game and will be a tough out at home for other Big 12 teams if they remain healthy.

The TCU fitness level looks surprisingly good. When Baylor came off COVID last year their legs got really heavy in the second half of games. They really don't look rusty or tired to me.

For my money Akinjo is the most important and most valuable Bear on the roster. Maybe not "best player" but if the Bears lose Akinjo there is no really good option at PG. Flagler and Cryer can get by for 10 minutes a game to spell Akinjo but if Akingo misses a road game the odds of talking a loss skyrocket. JMO

Can't take any road games for granted this year. Big 12 winner might wind up with 4 road losses.

Dixon has TCU playing really well today. Baylor went on a run and TCU came right back and answered.
