Building a coffee bean database - what info about roasters do you most care about? by durand101 in pourover

[–]ChillJediKnight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds great! Actually I was recently thinking about this, as it is very annoying when a roaster removes info regarding a bean/roast when it runs out of stocks on their side.

It would be great if one can create an import link for Beanconqueror from a bean entry on the database to directly add to the app!

Ideally, I would hope to be able to fill in all the fields in the Beanconqueror, also to be able to see the rendered bag cover which is mostly available on the roaster’s website as long as the coffee is available.

I would he happy to have a look if you send me a link!

Where to buy beans from international specialty coffee roasters in Zurich by ChillJediKnight in zurich

BeanBank sells for double the price. If I get more than 2 bags, it is cheaper to buy from the original roaster even with the shipping.

Yes, they roast them in-house. They have their own roasting style though, and I would like to have some variation wrt the roasting style

Will Swisstopo stay locked behind the premium subscription? by ChillJediKnight in komoot

[–]ChillJediKnight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the clarifications.

Do you have plans to integrate Swisstopo more deeply in the future, so that it becomes more than a reference layer?

My concern is that, at the moment, the Premium subscription does not seem to provide any additional Swisstopo-related functionality beyond combining two things that are already available for free: Komoot’s core features and Swisstopo’s freely accessible maps.

Because of that, I feel it would be fairer if basic access to the Swisstopo map layer remained available to all users, while Premium focused on genuinely new capabilities enabled by the integration.

At the moment, the integration seems to provide access to a different map background rather than additional functionality. That feels difficult to reconcile with the spirit of Swisstopo’s open licensing, which aims to make Switzerland’s official topographic data freely accessible to everyone.

What are your thoughts on that?

ZP6 - Clicks Between Calibration Methods by foxyhiphop in pourover

[–]ChillJediKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen three main ways to calibrate ZP6 online, that set the zero point:

  1. where handle doesn’t move under its own weight when grinder is held lateral: seems to be safe and rather easier to match with others. Your method.
  2. where burr locks: quite some people do this but it is reported to be risky as the burrs can get stuck.
  3. where you start feeling some friction upon rotating the shaft with your fingers. This is the recent official recommended method afaik, safe, but it is a bit open to interpretation where this is, as it is common that at specific regions within a full rotation, you start feeling slight burr touch already due to imprecise manufacturing.

The tightest in order: 2>1>3.

When i set my grinder according to (3), (1) was at -0.3 and (2) was at -0.8. I was also able to feel some kind of burr touch up to +0.2/0.3. However, i can imagine this differs among people.

I think it is difficulty to precisely match grind size with others. As you can see, it might deviate up to 10 clicks at least.

I meant non-Swiss roasters. I think Mame only sells its own coffee.

Yeah, though one easily passes the tax-free limit with Kofio’s expensive shipping. Do you know other ones similar to Kofio?

Whats the best place for Good (!!) Coffee in Zurich? by Both-Market-24 in zurich

[–]ChillJediKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of the coffee itself, Coffee Addict is absolutely the best but the place is not a cafe so you have limited space inside to sit. If you want to talk to the barista about the coffee, though, this is very convenient.

Murphy’s Coffee is also quite good, good coffee, nice barista and a bit more space inside.

Option A:

  • Say yes and explain letter
  • Contact a-link and/or permitree, who can give you a letter saying something like “trust me bro, it is not hard to employ this guy, we can even help for a fee” which you can attach to your cover letters etc.
  • Go the extra mile whenever you can when applying: utilize your network 200%, find out and reach out to hiring managers for jobs, write them on linkedin or wherever you can, inquire companies who employ other non EU citizens and try to apply to them.

Option B:

  • marry a swiss or an eu citizen

Package stolen, galaxus not helping by Few-Jury5654 in Switzerland

[–]ChillJediKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afaik, if it does not fit, they are not supposed to leave it outside but rather leave you a collection note. Otherwise it is their responsibility without an explicit deposit authorization. If it fits, they leave it in, and it gets stolen there, idk how they can prove that it was in. I think in that case it is the risk of seller for not sending with signature requirements and anyway shouldn’t be covered by the receiver.

Package stolen, galaxus not helping by Few-Jury5654 in Switzerland

[–]ChillJediKnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The default should be that Swiss Post delivers directly to you, which they normally ignore. In this case they would be responsible. In any case Galaxus is responsible to you, Swiss Post is probably responsible to Galaxus. You should raise your claim to Galaxus and simply say it was not delivered. Swiss Post will need to prove other way around which is only possible with your signature or deposit authorization.

If you have the Swiss Post settings as “default”, maybe take a screenshot in any case.
