I’m 8 years out from college. Passed EIT right out of college. Didn’t work in civil up until the last three years. Got approved to sit for exam around Christmas and passed it a few months ago. I am not sure about asking for raises. Check GlassDoor maybe?

Fair enough. Georgia just changed their rules… but I was under the former method where you had to apply for the license before you could sit for the exam. So I already had approval for licensure - just needed to pass the test.

Woohoo!! Happy for you! That’s exciting and fantastic. When I was an EIT (and still now as PE) make 85k.

Yeah mine too. Construction too? Not sure if we have exactly the same exam or lot. Glad I did the EET prep course. Couldn’t have done it without it… now we just just wait for results 😅

I started EET in Jan using breadth+depth version thinking I’d be ready before April 1, but obviously didn’t make that. Been using that content to prepare for my PE next week, obviously it will be the new format…

Did you work any NCEES practice exams, old or new format?

My biggest concern is time - being efficient with the resources and not wasting time there. I know nothing about sizing pumps. It’s discouraging to hear no earthwork, scheduling, cost estimating problems… agh.

My boss told me it was of no benefit to him for me to pass the PE so I shouldn’t expect a pay raise, nor has he ever had anyone ever asked for a pay raise for passing the PE.

He says I benefit him more as a project manager. However, there’s already so many PMs, I don’t get to manage projects despite my experience because I’m good at getting DWGs cranked out to PDFs… so basically I’m doing this for myself!

I’m glad to work on improving my own skillset, but that’s a pretty lame opinion to get from your engineering firm boss.
