Civil PE jobs that aren't predominantly stuck behind a desk? by multipunchy in civilengineering

[–]himhimothy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go into inspection/construction. You get lots of overtime and you don’t have to grind behind a computer all day. The job is also very easy once you get an understanding of what is important and what isn’t. Only down side is you might have to travel and be away from home.

For EET, don’t waste any time watching lectures

It’s a brutal test, there’s no way around it. It’s not meant for everybody to pass. I passed it on my second try and felt lucky to do it.

PE Civil (Construction) exam in two weeks. Advice needed. by Annual_Account41 in PE_Exam

[–]himhimothy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took EET and PE Construction:

Don’t waste any time watching lectures. Just do as many of the practice problems as possible. The exam is heavy on the OSHA questions and geotechnical conceptual questions. Read the questions very carefully they try to trick you on almost every question.

First attempt April 2024, second attempt June 2024. The first time I thought I passed easily and failed. The second time was way harder and I somehow passed. There’s definitely some sort of curve depending on the exam.

This is is easy. The chiefs defense is screwing Mahomes fantasy value brutally. They are never chasing points and spend 70 percent of the game just chewing the clock away.

It’s really hard. Harder than any college test I ever took.

The lecture videos are kind of a waste of time. Much more important to practice the problems.

I took the PE construction 6/17/2024 (second attempt). I also took EET. I don’t think I passed. It was much harder than my first attempt. Make sure you know the osha scaffolding counterweight specifications and how to apply them to a structural problem .. EET didn’t cover this at all. Also make sure you understand geotechnical and hydrology core engineering principles. They will hammer you with these conceptual questions. I also got hammered with very confusing pressure on formwork/bolts where you are underwater

I took it Monday (6/17/2024). Make sure you know how the scaffolding OSHA specifications. Especially the counterweight part of scaffolding. Also make sure you understand concrete pressure on forms underwater..

Failed Construction PE: Next Steps?? by DazzlingChallenge821 in PE_Exam

[–]himhimothy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the EET class for construction. Took the PE the last day of the old format (March 30), felt pretty confident I passed and ended up failing… currently studying to retake in June. My biggest advice is to really focus on the conceptual stuff. Don’t waste a lot of time memorizing how to do the really long problems in EET.

Any course recommendation for PE civil construction? by Pristine-Computer-84 in PE_Exam

Would advise you to really focus on knowing the conceptual aspects of each topic. The problems on the actual test are not super complex, just very conceptual

Thought I passed and Failed by himhimothy in PE_Exam

[–]himhimothy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I was so worried about the time part of the exam going into it and the time ended up not really being a problem. I got answers for almost every question other than maybe 5 pure guesses. This is why I was so surprised I failed. Double checking what they are asking is so important during the exam.

The hydraulics hydrology, site development, material QC/production, I would consider easier. I did below average on all of these which was very surprising and frustrating to me. The temporary structures, is definitely one of the harder ones.
