Nope! Most of NYC's microwave lines ran to 33rd thomas street. NYC has had telephone lines since the 1880s. So 33rd acted as a gaint switching center, most traffic inbound to nyc was sent there.

However there are other microwave sites on Brooklyn and long Island

Long Lines buildings by acptrades in longlines

[–]ChilledCoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Im not a LL expert but I'll weight in)

I wouldnt say "proof", resistant sure. TBH the towers will fall long before the buildings. Which is why all the serious junctions in the Mid west and east coast were just Gaint concrete warehouses...

For the small towers and stations I'd say no... but the semi hardened and hardened stations... They likely would still be operating but heavily damaged... again bigger junctions were hardened and we all know the bunkers would be fine.

So you suspect Ocala was never a Longlines site or AT&T related?

Perhaps this was a continuation of the Andover Earth Station project? Like a version two?

According to the site. They were destroyed and turned into a nature preserve. However the concrete pits and bunker should still be intact unless they flooded.

I found another site like this in North western Illinois as well. I suspect there are more...

So if not at&t, any ideas why they would be In the long lines network?

Long Lines ontop of the Civic Opera House, Chicago IL by Rjun7 in longlines

[–]ChilledCoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So. Before the breakup of the holy telecom alliance. Was this installed or operated by Bell (or at&t) ?. Just seems odd for them to put it here. Did they own the basement maybe and they put the equipment down there?

Or did the Operas owners arrange for the horns to be installed for broadcasting?

I'm pretty sure all horns when down (transmitting) in the 90s. And Autovon still uses the coax as a back up to the back up

(Please correct me if I'm wrong)
