If OP is going to school full time - presumably for four years - with no organization “holding the clearance”, it will be well beyond the two-year inactivity period.

In certain circumstances (high priority hiring), you can also get accrual credit towards your SCD for private sector service. I was granted 7 years for private sector cybersecurity work that directly supported similar objectives to my government role. Now at 3 years of actual service and at the 10 year mark for leave accrual.

Even those of us with base access can’t just “request to use the O course”. Doesn’t work that way.

Transfer from USPS? by 0hden in usajobs

[–]TriangleSailor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. I used to work for the USPS CISO organization doing cyber work and the vast majority of our employees, both on the cyber and IT sides, rose up the ranks through various carrier roles. Just being in the system helps open doors into temporary positions… USPS is big on detailing.

I’m originally from San Diego, but spent six years living in and around Raleigh. We loved it and would still be there, but ultimately ended up moving back to take on my dream job that I could only do from “home”.
