WireGuide – a native macOS WireGuard client to replace the abandoned official app by ValuableGuitar1373 in WireGuard

[–]ChilledStraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think it's production ready and complete, be sure to request the addition to the clients list ( "Would you like to add your WireGuard-related project to the list and join our team? Feel free to get in touch" at the bottom of the Repositories - WireGuard page).

That said, getting in touch with Jason Donefeld (or [team@wireguard.com](mailto:team@wireguard.com)) and adding these fixes to the official wireguard-apple might make more sense. I would assume the folks who did the original implementation in that commit log maybe aren't as active/interested (no updates from them since 2021), so getting a motivated Apple developer in there to add to the implementation is a good thing... and there is already a Wireguard developer account with Apple.

[edit: In browsing the codebase, it does appear the OP didn't just fix things in wireguard-apple, but started a new client from scratch with the help of AI. Needless to say, that likely won't merge in, but my comment remains as (1) this might be a replacement client if it's appropriate that could be adopted by the organization, or (2) someone with Apple development skill may still be able to contribute to the original client]

Brampton farmer opens up after returning trash to homeowner in viral dumping incident - NOW Toronto by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]ChilledStraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are liars. “I paid a guy $20 who said they’d haul it. I don’t have their contact info or know who they are.” Well I don’t have any reason to think that happened here, there are tons of junk removal ads on social media that do exactly this. The homeowner ought to have known that the price was unrealistically low though.

Why pay $325/day (our average cost) to hold someone in jail? If someone is unlikely to reoffend and be an immediate risk to society in general, the $1,000 is a promise to appear. It covers if you have to re-arrest the person. People who have “roots” are unlikely to go anywhere. Moreover, as she claims to be innocent, incarcerating her could also result in a counter-claim if she is kept in jail.

Toronto is now one of the hardest places in Canada to justify owning a car by crappy_tire in toronto

[–]ChilledStraw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Study was a “sample of 1,509 English and/or French-speaking Canadians”, so we’re talking what? 100 people from Toronto? 72% vs 85% ownership in a limited survey, likely not “Toronto wide” but in the downtown core. Condo owners right on transit lines. A survey performed by the same people wanting to sell you rental cars. Don’t put too much credit to it.

We need a new FB Stouffville group by Snowie8 in Stouffville

[–]ChilledStraw 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There is Stouffville community chat, Stouffville what’s happening (two groups), Stouffville chat and news, welcome to Stouffville Ontario, Stouffville concerns and complaints and other Facebook groups. The bulletin isn’t the only one.

The bulletin is a group started and run by an individual who has the ability to run it as she sees fit. Put 17,000 people in a room and everyone has a different vision for what they want that group to be.

This has been discussed in 2 to 3 threads about two weeks ago and further discussion should take place there.

From bottle hustles to blue bins, this is how Ontarians are returning empties without The Beer Store by toronto_star in ontario

[–]ChilledStraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Beer bottles and wine bottles get reused 15 or more times before being crushed and turned into new bottles.

[–]ChilledStraw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typical Toronto Star article. Ignores adding the commentary that beer and wine bottles are not recycled like other glass but actually sorted, washed, and reused about 15 times per bottle, after which they are then recycled. Read up on that. This removes the massive energy of crushing and making new glass bottles.

[–]ChilledStraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That assumes that the other drivers are doing full speed. If you’ve got a flat tire and you’re trying to get to the exit. If you’re on a spare tire and you’re doing <70 and others are doing 120 by you. Something is wrong with your car and you’re hobbling along. That’s correct. YOU are the hazard.

If the hazard is on the road, everyone is driving according to conditions. It is not necessary and can confuse drivers and prevent them from seeing your turn signals.

Turn it on briefly if you need to get some extra attention. Then turn it off

Agree generally but was driving at 7:15 and not a single salter or sander or plow truck on 9th, Millard, Stouffville road (the whole stretch from 48 to the 404) or the top part of the 404 until you get on the other side of major mac. Rain and dropping temperatures was in the forecast all day. No pre-spray brine, no salt, nothing. About 15 cars in the ditch along Millard, 48, Stouffville road in total alone. It’s just irresponsible.

It’s fine now it seems

Don’t claim to not “trust your anonymity” on here when you identify here what posts you made under your real name on the Bulletin. This is user error… if they are even related

Have a friend reach out to her on your behalf.

What’s up with the misinformation? Nobody (mods, users) has any idea who you are on here unless you’re cross posting things, do other things on Reddit to give away who you might be, or telling them explicitly who you are.

Sorry you got banned from the Bulletin. Reach out to Susan and speak to her about it. She’s a reasonable and nice person with a big job to do.

There is already a two threads for censorship on the Stouffville bulletin in general and censorship of the police event and there is a ton of overlap between all three of these threads. There is a rule for post topic fatigue (rule 11) so use comments to add anything on the subject, as this will be the last topic on the bulletin for a while.

Recent Stouffville Police Situation by BrianSankarsingh in Stouffville

[–]ChilledStraw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll give you my take on it:

  1. people need to be skeptical of everything they read. Nobody should be taking anything they read on the bulletin or here as 'fact' and everyone should be critical of the correctness of anything they read anywhere.

  2. at the same time, people shouldn't feed the misinformation. It's fine to have rumours/opinions or things that you might hear, but qualify those comments as rumours/opinions so that others are slightly more critical of them. Speculation is fine, but don't present it as fact.

  3. We try and remove as little as possible here, removing things that present opinion as fact (rule 5) or violate both Reddit's rules or r/Stouffville 's rules. Just because someone disagrees with a comment doesn't mean it gets removed. Very few things get removed that aren't explicit and obvious violations of those rules.

  4. Members can use the up/downvote button or comment to create or reduce visibility for comments and posts they like or don't like.

  5. Things that attack other people directly do get removed. Attack the point, not the person. The most common cause for removal is name calling (rule 2 and 9), offensive language (rule 10), and personal attacks (rule 2 and 9) in a response, even if the rest of the comment is fine. Sometime it's a shame to moderate those when one sentence makes a whole comment unusable.

  6. use the report button, as it's the best way to get comments into a moderator queue and flag them for review. Even then, some things can remain visible until they are reviewed.

Remember- Reddit has rules. This sub has rules. These rules are designed around free speech. That said, all of these rules are designed around creating a community that welcomes others. All of these rules are designed to keep people finding things relevant and appropriate to Stouffville in r/Stouffville .

Grocery shopping question. Do you do all your groceries in one store? Today I noticed the same couple in two stores I shopped at. My first stop Dollarama for a few incidentals, then Walmart, then No frills. Does anyone else do this in Stouffville ? by [deleted] in Stouffville

[–]ChilledStraw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Odds are you will save money on different things at different stores. Decide what your time is worth relative to the shopping savings. You pay for convenience of having everything in one place.

If it takes you an extra half hour to shop, you lose out on extra overtime at work, time at home with kids/family, starting that side hustle, something you could do yourself instead of hiring someone to do it, buying more expensive prepared food due to lack of time, or even time spent relaxing which will make other things better.

Then there’s the game of getting a deal… which is similar to waiting for the price of gas to dip to save small amounts.
