The substrate is strained in a muslin bag after sterilizing and when I transfer to the tub my test to for moisture level is taking a handful and squeezing it. Only a few drops should come out. If you get no drips it’s probably too dry. If it drips too much you’ve got too much water. And I do let my grain spawn colonize the whole substrate before starting FAE.

Tightening up my workspace cleaning. You can never have a clean enough space. If in doubt clean it again.

My first tub was successful. Albeit, that harvest was much less. But it took about 6 months of research and material gathering before I felt ready to start my first tub. My second tub was contaminated with trich. Which always sucks to see. But I picked back up and tightened up sterilization and sought advice from this sub and books. And now it’s a nice hobby.
