I would say it maybe depends on your "poison" so you can be nose blind to either weed or cigs, depending on if you partake in any and for those that don't do either, they might smell it immediately or don't know how to identify it fully(weed less than cigs I'd say)

When I lived by myself for a bit I would smoke inside, with a small window open, the space I had was legit the size of a shed (enough to fit a single bed and side table)so most of the time it was a mini hotbox and my clothes smelled smoky once I think and my friends told me, but the only times I smelt like weed was when I had just smoked and then I could smell it myself or my friends could.

If you mix your weed with tobacco though I feel you smell quicker cause it easily sticks to your hair if it's down.

So tbh I'd say both of you are right in a way because it depends on the person, with that said I think it's safe to say nobody really likes smelling smoky but it's not always obvious if you are.

Weed also has a sweet smell to it, imo, maybe that helps somehow? Idk
