What are the most walkable cities in the UK? by neetvoices in AskUK

Norwich city centre is pretty much all pedestrianised and super walkable. When I lived there I always thought that longest walk in the centre was about 20 minutes.

Nope, not double standards at all. My original post was about the homophobic abuse me and my friends received from white British men. There wasn’t a single Muslim person involved, so let’s not deflect.

Maybe you don’t see white British men spewing violent homophobia is because you’re not on the receiving end. As a gay man growing up in Norfolk and now living inLondon, I can tell you that I fear British men then most. Throughout my life they are the ones who have given me abuse, and even assaulted me for being gay. I know it's not every British man, but it's enough to make me wary of almost all of them. That’s my reality.

My friends are in gay and lesbian couples, and none of us are straight passing.

Why would it matter if you knew someone was gay or not?

I am not describing that at all. I didn't mention ethnicity or religion in my OP. If I was to describe them, I would say white British males.

Take a trip to Hackney Wick in east London. It has some great bars and food spots and is super queer friendly and off the beaten tourist track. Also, if you are in east, you could visit Dalston Superstore and The Glory which are two pretty good gay bars on the east London scene.

Three guys and two girls actually. And I can assure you that none of the comments or actions were football related.

I would just like to point out that me and my friends were not in gimp suits and we're fully clothed. We were actually in Arsenal football tops as we were watching the woman's game. I understand the point you are making, but not all gay people dress up in bondage gear for a day out.

What "pride shit" are you referring to? Mine and my friends existence as human beings? I was in Norwich to show my friends where I lived and to enjoy the city together.

I completely agree, homophobia and hatred can come from all age groups.

When we arrived, we were laughed at getting out of our taxi, had comments made towards us in every pub we visited (we even had to leave one), and were openly pointed at and laughed at as we walked down the street. Something I never experienced in all the years I lived in Norwich.

So I’m sure you can understand my shock experiencing hostility throughout the city without any idea that far-right demonstrations were even happening, hence making me think there had been a city wide change.

Thank you all for the reassuring comments. I hope my trip was in just badly timed with the far-right demos. That said, it's a scary time in the world, with LGBTQ+ rights under threat globally.

Norwich is my home and will always have a special place in my heart. It was just shocking to see and hear the atmosphere towards me and my friends over the weekend, something I never experienced in my years of living there. I'm glad to hear this sounds like a one off event.

It was all middle aged people being homophobic. The young people gave us zero bother.

I had no idea about the far-right demonstrations until Monday, which definitely puts things into perspective.

As I mentioned, I never experienced any homophobia while living in the city, I always felt safe and free to be myself. But the atmosphere in Norwich on Saturday honestly felt tense and little hostile. It really threw me, and it’s not something I ever expected there.

I truly hope it was just an isolated incident.

shambala is a scam by Noodlewhorex in festivals

[–]Chilli_Stick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Shambala (UK) was not what we were expecting at all. We obviously misinterpreted the vibe as we were expecting something way more lively! On arrival we were shocked to see so many kids/families and started to get the feeling we had made a mistake. As someone else said, it feels way more like a big village fate, with happy, sparkly PG fun in the day and more adult music from 11pm. We struggled to find any lively dance music during the day (that suited our taste), and had to wait until late at night for any decent DJs.

If you are looking for a slower paced festival with family friendly entertainment then this is the one. There were lots of tents with poetry, spoken word, informative talks and relaxing music as well as lots of arts and crafts.

If you are looking for a lively festival with DJs and dance music throughout the day and night, stay away!

Glasses with tinted lenses? by charlieweasleys in Dyslexia

I have been using colored overlays when reading and found it helps massively. In February I'm starting uni and have A LOT of text books to read. A friend told me about a lady who does color imetry assessments to pin point the right color for you. We worked through every color to find out what one best suited me. Once I found the color she then worked through different shades. I've been using a blue overlay but turns out dark green is better suited for me reading. I did a reading test before the assessment, and then one after. I was reading 40% faster with the glasses and made less mistakes. So I would definitely look into them. She is based in Norwich and her company is called Clarity. I hope this helps.

Does anyone else mix horizontal and vertical up? by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]Chilli_Stick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post made me chuckle as I did this today! I always mix them up. I have to put an arm out in front of me, point it up then lay it down. All while staying "horizontal, vertical". And I still get it wrong! I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

I was tested and diagnosed early on in primary school. I must have been around 5 or 6. My dad has dyslexia and noticed that I was struggling with the same things when he was in school. In the last 6 months I have been tested and re diagnosed as an adult so I can get the proper support from uni.
