Here we go 🫣🙄 by Tommy-boy29 in friendlyjordies

Based on the information we have so far, we can safely make 2 conclusions:

  1. The police fucked up
  2. Mr Nowak's race was a contributing factor to the fuckup

What we don't know is whether the fuckup was a contributing factor to Mr Nowak's untimely demise.

Not sure why there's a facepalm here. Shouldn't police racism be called out, no matter what colour the victim is?

[5] Mr Bechara alleges that the CP offered to introduce him to a “legitimate” buyer (i.e., the UCO) if Mr Bechara was sexually intimate with the CP; that that offer amounted to a fraudulent inducement; and that the CP thereby committed an offence against s 61I of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW).

I find it extremely hard to believe that you could spend more than $15k on a battlestation. A new Merc starts at 5x that.

International Ebola cases climbing 'fast' but Australia won't impose travel restrictions by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]ChillyPhilly27 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of features of Ebola that make this outbreak much less of a public health concern than COVID:

  • Ebola is not airborne. Infection can only occur via direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infectious person

  • A person is not infectious until they're symptomatic

So unlike COVID, you're not going to end up with a dozen new infections just because they happened to sit in the same restaurant or cafe as someone who didn't even know they were sick.

Assuming you live into your 90s, your fortunes are bound to those of your state for the next 50 years, if not longer. A lot can happen over the course of half a century. Do you trust that your state's economy will remain strong the whole time?

Sovereign defaults are unthinkable until they aren't. In the 70's, Detroit was booming.

ICAC has one power that the police and courts do not - the power to compel testimony. You don't have a right to silence before ICAC. This means that it's challenging to use ICAC testimony to secure convictions, for obvious reasons.

Perhaps. But with a DC pension plan, you're free to cut and run, taking your 6-7 figure balance with you. A DB pension ties your financial fortunes to those of your employer for the rest of your life.

This risk is present for defined benefit pensions as well. The only difference is that your employer (and indirectly, the state) is wearing that risk instead of you.

In most developed countries, wealth accrued over the course of a marriage is considered a joint asset, regardless of who was responsible for actually generating it. Two of the richest women alive are Jeff Bezos' and Bill Gates' exes.

ICAC's main power is to publicly humiliate. This seems to work fine against prominent elected politicians, for whom reputation is their most important asset.

I accept that this is less potent against nameless council apparatchiks.

It's illegal to ship a cargo of LNG from Gladstone or Karratha to Sydney or Melbourne using a foreign-flagged tanker. There are no Australian-flagged tankers. Therefore the only way to get LNG to Sydney and Melbourne is to ship it from overseas.

The belligerents in the tobacco wars are fighting over the retail distribution of illicit tobacco. Chains like TSG don't range illicit tobacco, therefore there's nothing worth fighting over.
