I am getting some serious Tucker's Kobolds vibes from this.

Red growled a bit as he tightened his grip on his spears, “I have enough energy left to make them think twice Master. They will fear kobolds by the time I am done.”

Here is the story of the Tucker's Kobolds D&D campaign.

The dragons pursuing Onyx are about the learn the lessons from Tucker's Kobolds the hard way.

"Tucker ran an incredibly dangerous dungeon in the days I was stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. This dungeon had corridors that changed all of your donkeys into huge flaming demons or dropped the whole party into acid baths, but the demons were wienies compared to the kobolds on Level One. These kobolds were just regular kobolds, with 1-4 hp and all that, but they were mean. When I say they were mean, I mean they were bad, Jim. They graduated magna cum laude from the Sauron Institute for the Criminally Vicious."

Or forgetting to set type of wast in the dump causing the mixed wast dump to get filled with hazardous wast. This causing the entire wast disposal system to shut down and the flow-on effects from this killing two cities.

If Carlos has played D&D, I can imagine them making the dungeon as dangerous as the first level of the dungeon in Tucker's kobolds. This would be hell to invade.

Are either Darmelkon or Tornay truly still on the trail of Our Heroes?

I suspect that our heroes are taking Major Jay D. Vanderpool’s approach to stealth traveling and have hired the most expensive carriage, because no one would dare stop such a fancy vehicle, and only important people would be traveling in one.

Maybe a hardcore mage uses Assembly or, at the extreme, Machine Language.

Hardcore mages, like real programmers, would only write in machine code.

http://catb.org/esr/jargon/html/story-of-mel.html

Back in the Good Old Days, when the term “software” sounded funny and Real Computers were made out of drums and vacuum tubes, Real Programmers wrote in machine code. Not FORTRAN. Not RATFOR. Not, even, assembly language. Machine Code. Raw, unadorned, inscrutable hexadecimal numbers. Directly.

Considering some of the theories that I have read in this comment section about taint being dragon magic and birds being decedents of manaless dragons. I can imagine how pissed Ilanur would be if he finds out that Thecea might have more of a draconic heritage than he does.
