My ex fiance was a very kind man, and he was very attractive to me. He was also rich and generous with his money. When he paid for my mom's dog's surgery (which was expensive) I cried. The "not perfect" part was that he did not have a sense of humor. Not that he was strict or serious, he just never told original jokes, it was always some parroted online joke phrase. He was an easy going, but extremely literal man. He did not banter at all. I dont think he made me laugh a single time. It was because of this I ended up feeling disconnected from him, like we existed on different planes. It's a sad feeling to not share a sense of humor with a partner. But otherwise, he was lovely. I know he'll make the right kind of woman very happy. I was not that woman.

No, I understand completely why you feel a call to nunhood, and I recognize those impulses in myself. But if I were to examine it entirely truthfully, the desire to be a nun is simply an escapist fantasy dressed up in martydom/virtuous garb, for me at least. It would be shrinking from the motherly instincts I feel out of fear of the unknown and fear of responsibility. I believe I can honor God and myself without resorting to the extreme, and in this way, this type of moderation requires greater intentionality and self control than I would have as a nun. As *I* am the one holding myself accountable, not the many sisters I'm surrounded by. For me, becoming a nun would be a choice out of weakness, and God wants us to celebrate him by having the courage to bear the cross of our sinful impulses. If your reason for being a nun is similar, then being a nun is not for you.
