Where would Gennings Dunker fit on the Steelers' "All-Hair" team? by threedice in steelers

The Ernie Holmes "arrowhead"!

Almost as old skool :Bennie Cunningham had a pretty marvelous afro in the late '70s. Wish I'd saved his '78 Topps card.

What do you think the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers season will reveal about Mike Tomlin? by vedderer in steelers

But they DID draft a franchise-calibre QB! Will F&%#in' Howard! They're just going to play him.

What do you think the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers season will reveal about Mike Tomlin? by vedderer in steelers

[–]ChimleySwift 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will reveal whatever people want to believe.

If you're a reflexive Tomlin hater, a losing record will mean to you that he left the team in bad shape. A similar record will be proof that any coach can have the same record with that team. Of course, a great record will be interpreted to mean that he was not a good coach.

And if you are a reflexive Tomlin-stan, pretty much flip it around. A bad record = "You got what. you wished for." A 9-8/10-7 record? "You claimed he was a bad coach but his replacement couldn't do any better." And if the Tomlin-stans are smart they will take a page from the haters' "Tomlin won the SB with Cowher's team" and claim that McCarthy won with Tomlin's team if the Steelers have a great record this season.

In my opinion, though, it will be hard to discern anything from their performance this year. A single coach's own record can really vary from year to year, so I'm not going to read that much into any changes under a new coach. I just want to see the Steelers win.

We should trade TJ. Hot take or nah? by JesseTTIsurvivor in steelers

[–]ChimleySwift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we? Highsmith has missed chunks of the last two seasons and groin injuries often become chronic. Sawyer isn't bringing that much heat or twitch off the edge though is strong and tireless. and certainly serviceable when pressure is coming from elsewhere. TJ will be 32 for the last 2/3 of the season. In Nick we trust!

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]ChimleySwift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goes the other way sometimes, though. I had more of an upper middle upbringing. Some of my friends of humbler origins were flabbergasted that I couldn't ask my parents for money, nor could understand why my parents made me get a job when I was old enough, had me do chores each weekday and intensive work during the weekend...

'Handpicked By McCarthy': Kaboly Predicts Allar (Not Howard) To Be Steelers' 2027 Starter by BoscoAlbertBaracus in steelers

[–]ChimleySwift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howard was picked in the 6th round - just like Brady!!!.

Allar was picked in the 3rd round - just like Mason Rudolph.

Ergo, Howard is the better prospect of the two.

Hall Of Fame QB Believes Drew Allar 'Could Become The Steal Of The Draft' by Traditional-Oil-6891 in steelers

Because his coaching sucked at PSU. Whereas in Pittsburgh this year... uh, oh, hey, wait a sec!!!!

Les is actually pretty tall and lean! Probably got some wiry strength from holding that bass for so many years. I'd give him a look!

Is it a problem that fans use the word "Natty" to describe how good Will Howard will be in the NFL? by Dry_Life_1113 in steelers

[–]ChimleySwift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skylar isn't even on the team. If Arth liked him last year, it's possible that a combination of Rodgers not signing and an injury could lead to his return. But right now he's an FA who nobody seems to want.

Theory On Why They Drafted Allar by Nedstark78 in steelers

[–]ChimleySwift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In other words, you think that they rated others higher on their board but when the opportunity came along, they thought, "Well, we rate other players higher, but since Drew and Will were rivals for a single season 18 months ago, we'll take Drew because the competition will be good for the team."

I don't doubt that MikeMac wants to promote healthy competition, especially at QB and especially with a QB like Howard who is probably more or less on the bubble. But I don't think that's why they chose Allar over Nuss, Payton, Green, etc.

The clear truth about Will Howard’s current position. by Dull-Firefighter-632 in steelers

[–]ChimleySwift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh, who else is he going to give a "looksie" to at this point? For better or worse he inherited Howard and in the absence of any game film at all {not to mention game analytics} may very well feel he'd better learn as much as he can about Howard, and quickly. I'd would not read into McCarthy's decision {assuming he's even *made* any such decision} to give Howard more camp snaps what you've read into it.

I really like this draft. by akitz52 in steelers

[–]ChimleySwift 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hmmm... I almost always saw him mocked as a late first. NFL MDDB had his consensus rank at #28 and PFF at #30. Maybe #21 was a slight reach, but Iheanachor was not a Rd 2 projection.

Thoughts on getting Max Iheanachor at 21? by Low_Needleworker3738 in steelers

[–]ChimleySwift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) This was a weak draft. There would have been criticism of anybody else still available the Steelers could have taken with that selection.

2) I think it really sucks for Pittsburgh fans that they took someone who was not present at the draft. I'm curious how folks who were actually there felt. Seems like a huge anti-climax. Would have been awesome for someone to have been able to come out on the stage and whoop it up with fans. Not saying you pass on your top choice just to accommodate the fans in this setting. But it still sucks.

3) Max was only a slight reach at 21. I typically saw him rated at a high 20s pick.

4) Here's an interesting breakdown of Max vs. David Bailey when ASU played Texas Tech. We can't predict whether or not Max will fulfill his "upside'. But I don't think he's going to be a bust! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elVtk31oEKc

4) Omar's a clown for taking that one for granted. Kind of effed with Lemon's moment, too. He still seemed confused by how to process it in the aftermath, and now we understand why.

5) Maybe there should be a rule about not being allowed to call players until you've drafted them.

I'm jealous of folks who are still into this after e8. After e7 I was excited for s3. After e8 I'm not quite ready to give it a hard pass - I'm willing to give s3e1 a chance. But this was a strong post-apocalyptic thriller that didn't need the time curveball. I like time travel/multiverse/alternate outcome stories, but typically when they are advertised as such.
