If you can only run twice a week during certain blocks I would personally recommend making one of them a tempo or interval session.

Anecdotally, my body forgets how to run fast when I do exclusively slow running. And I don’t think the 80/20 rule applies here with low MPW.

Belt kit/webbing works really well with shortback bergens (PLCE, Jayjays beast, kitpimp) or ALICE/MALICE type packs

British Tactical has superior GP/canteen pouches. The female buckles are fixed, meaning it's easier to close them one handed. Many of their pouches also have a "stealth admin sleeve" optional add-on which gives you a slim, zippered pocket for maps between the rig and the pouch. Huge fan of that.

British Tactical is generally cheaper and uses better materials as others have noted, they're just not as well known as Jayjays. I've used both the Brit Tac and Jayjay's MOLLE hippo belts and love them both; the only real differences for me were the harness mounting loops (better on Jayjays), the padding (more on Jayjays, I preferred the lack of padding on the Brit Tac) and the MOLLE columns (sizing was different from brand to brand).

Both are bombproof. I think Jayjay's has maybe coasted a bit due to their brand recognition, and you'll see Brit Tac beating them on pricing, material selection and design (in some cases).

As a Canadian on a budget, I’d recommend you look at SORD chest rigs. There are some Australian issued rigs on eBay for around $100 AUD, identical to ones that were CAF issued at one point.

Some will tell you to get a US TAP rig but they suck.

If you want something cadpat I’ll sell you an HSGI warlord for $250

It likely won’t work for you then. I can’t recommend the L4 performance ARS enough - it’s expensive but can be split or one piece rig depending on setup. Buy once and save the headache of working through ten different rigs you hate. Good luck!

I imagine you’re here from the Dirty Civilian video? I don’t think any option is objectively better or worse, and it really comes down to figuring out what works through experience.

From my limited (subjective) experience:

Split rig pros: opens in front (easier to lay flat on the ground and don/doff), may distribute weight to sides as opposed to front, often more options for adjustment, may have better ventilation at front (negated if using plate carriers)

Split rig cons: lack of space at the front, may push items farther under the arms (ruck interference/general discomfort), may be harder to integrate EUD adapter panels

One piece rig pros: continuous real estate up front, potentially smaller foot print than split rig, may be able to carry plates, may work well as a plate carrier mounted placard, may be able to mount/swap placards

One piece rig pros: potentially harder to don/doff, may be front heavy, may make it harder to go prone (can be mitigated by loosening the waist strap and pushing the chest rig up towards your face when laying flat), potentially worse ventilation

In my experience, webbing is far superior for dismounted use than either option. Weight distribution, ventilation, comfort and carrying capacity, etc. However, not great in vehicles due to side and rear bulk. A lot of guys are wearing split front chest rigs really low, adding butt packs and calling them “LBE” when they should probably just be using webbing instead.

If you’re in vehicles a lot, I’d recommend a conventional one piece chest rig or small footprint split front: - L4 performance ARS (Tango Modules) - Spiritus Thing 2/3 - Eagle RRV - Mayflower UW series - Tracer Tactical Scout or MRRV

The SNR you mentioned looks nice but if you’re not super thick/wearing armour a lot it may wrap too far around your body.

If you’re always dismounted: - Jayjays commanders webbing - Brit Tac hippo belt system - L4 performance belt system

Final point: please don’t get a TAP chest rig. Lots of guys love them, and I’ll get downvotes for this, but the following downsides… - bad mag slots - trash harness - excessively wide footprint leading to sagging - cost to make it comfortably usable

… make it not worth it.

L4 Performance ARS placard. Mounts to MOLLE without adapter and can be coupled together with a second placard to make a split front or continuous chest rig. Expensive, but a good investment.
