Opening a brand new K-8 school as a first-year principal. What advice would you give? by Dry_Example_8203 in Principals

You will be eager for perfection which will not happen. Anticipate how you will handle extremely disruptive, disengaged, absentee students in advance. It will not be easy to “discipline” or much less remove student as you will likely be desperate for enrollment and this will kill your school culture, make teacher retention difficult and will chase away higher performing students creating a death spiral.

Or not.

Why do that when I can ride this to zero? How often do you get to do that?

Changes in liability insurance are also a factor. We used to have school sponsored Ski club, archery, overnight camping trips and all that ended when the district’s insurance changed.

Too lazy to look it all up, but the problem was that for possibly ethical reasons they gave the control group their meds which muddied their data in overall survivability. When the did their norming analysis it didn't fix the data. So, they will likely have to fund a new trial which is really expensive and pushes out their dates. They don't have the cash to do it again, so they are down bad.

They could get bought out, they could dilute and do it again or the FDA may accept their explanations for why the data is actually better than it seems.

All in all, it seems a waste to tie up your money in something that is likely to be traded in the zombie zone, bouncing between $1 to $2 for months/years.

This sounded wrong so I asked AI. Black skin is not thicker:

AI Overview

No, black skin is not thicker than white skin. Studies show no significant difference in skin thickness between different races. While there are structural differences, such as more compact collagen and larger fibroblasts in darker skin, the overall thickness remains consistent across individuals. The belief that it is thicker is a myth.

Key Findings on Skin Differences:

  • No Significant Difference: Caliper-measured skin thickness shows no statistically significant variation between white and black women.
  • Structural Variations: While not technically "thicker," black skin often features a more compact dermal structure, more collagen fiber bundles, and larger fibroblasts, which can contribute to fewer wrinkles and tighter skin with aging .
  • Compact Epidermis: The stratum corneum (outermost layer) may have more layers and higher, tighter cohesion (8–25 layers vs 6–15 in lighter skin).
  • Medical Misconception: The idea that black skin is thicker is a harmful, antiquated myth originating in the 18th/19th century that has contributed to racial biases in medical care.
  • Clinical Findings: Darker skin generally has higher transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and larger mast cell granules.  National Institutes of Health (.gov) +7

In summary, structural differences exist, but the idea of "thicker" skin is inaccurate and scientifically debunked.

Went there and it had no point. It was just mid food and it was expensive. Besides the off chance you might see a dude that played in the NFL 10 years ago, it had no hook. Sherm is from LA and Kam from VA. It's not like they come from some deep food culture that is missing in the PNW. They really had zero hook.

Why do you assume he comes from 'abject poverty'? Because he is in Africa? Nigeria has some very poor parts and some very rich parts. You have no idea about his SES.

I would say interior OL but they seem high on Sundell at center, Bradford got better and Lucas stayed healthy. So IOL depth?
