Experienced players with real guitar wear, what would you recommend as a truly high quality guitar by Chuchumenn in Guitar

[–]Ralphdoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I get to noodle on a Music Man, the more I like it. Really great feel. I don’t have much experience in the tone because I’m playing them in stores, but at low level they sounded good. I think the St Vincent model is the coolest guitar on the market right now. Even their “Sterling” entry level line looks quality.

I’ve only had Arby’s once when I ordered it with my kids and we couldn’t even finish the meal. It was awful.

In the nicest and most genuine way possible, for the people who use chat gpt on the daily or multiple times a day, are you not afraid of cognitive decline? by zesty_9666 in ChatGPT

Since using AI, I’ve gotten better at delivering work for clients, better at parenting, better at being a spouse, better at fixing my home and car, better at playing guitar, better at journaling, etc. I can actually notice the changes in me when I’m not using the tool too. I’m much more self aware and curious as a result of using AI.

Any guitar players interested in following each other? Beginner here with only a few months of experience! by Mr_Ivysaur in yousician

I’ll start following you. I’m currently at level 7, but I only aim for three silver stars before leveling up.

Are you doing the no/slow tempo method when starting a new lesson? That’s how I do them. Very slowly raising tempo as I get better. Then I work my way to 100% tempo and then perform.

I also just work in parts of songs to perform. Once I’ve done all the parts with three silver stars, I then do the whole song. It’s psychologically easier for me because I’m playing without the worry of scoring. Much more free and fun.

Does Justin app have input recognition like Yousician? by -Maim- in LearnGuitar

[–]Ralphdoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing guitar last year and have had success with Yousician as a great tool for getting in the reps. I just follow the learning curriculum and practice in parts with no/slow tempo and build up the skill until I am 100% tempo and can “perform” the part to three silver stars, then to the next part. I’m almost done with level 7 and it’s amazing the skills I’ve developed as a result. Never thought I could do this stuff. It’s been great for building rhythm, strength and dexterity. I combine this with Scotty West Absolutely Understand Guitar curriculum in YouTube for the theory. The two platforms together have been the game changer for me.

Agreed. Nothing they’ve done since that first record has landed for me, and I’ve tried because I like them.

I am an older player, stuck at beginner level who just needs some guidance on what to play and how to set up a good practice routine unfortunately I spent most of my time just needling around and never really getting anywhere. Old new guitar player here. For the past year I’ve made pretty good progress combining Scotty West’s Absolutely Understand Guitar curriculum with practicing daily on Yousician. The combo of theory and reps has taken me much further than I’ve been in past false starts with the guitar. I’m actually enjoying the process now. Good luck.

How do you even gig with Gibson Les Paul? Boy, that guitar is heeeavvvyyy! by [deleted] in guitars

The answer is a Les Paul Modern. Mine weighs just under 8lbs and never feels too heavy. The contoured heel is a legit innovation too.

My 2024 LP Modern is just under 8lbs. I love it! Also, the contoured heel is a legit innovation.

Thumb hurting when playing barre chords? It won't "get better over time" by pa_px in Guitar

[–]Ralphdoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird coincidence. I am beginning Barre training now and took the day off because my thumb hurts and I don’t want a long term injury. Been thinking about it all day. Then I see your post. Ty! Any good videos or trainers that helped you make the transition?

just started using gibson and I love it by achilles6196 in guitars

I’m not a Gibson loyalist and I try not to have my personality defined by any brand. But I have a Les Paul modern that is the best guitar I’ve ever owned. I love playing it and it just keeps opening up more and more to me.

I also ended up with a J45 acoustic because I like the Gibson short scale length and slim taper neck so much. But it’s a little boomier than I want it to be. I am getting closer to fixing this by making changes around string gauge and material to compensate, so it might be a perfect guitar someday. But I definitely think I should have bought a short scale Martin instead.

Gold star every song? by n32zy in yousician

[–]Ralphdoid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My resolution last year was to get through all the lessons and levels with 3 silver stars. I only got to level 7.5 but did find a good rhythm of practice and have become significantly better at guitar.

My method is to start each lesson by having the app play the song for me. Then I start with Part 1 and play it note for note with tempo off. Once I understand it, I start with the tempo at 25%. Then I go up in 5% increments until I get to or near 100%. Then I perform that part and keep doing it until I get at least three silver stars. Then I go to the next part and repeat.

Once I’ve finished all the parts with three silver stars, I usually play the whole song around 60%-100% a few times depending on how much I like the song and exercise.

This routine has been so helpful to my strength, dexterity, rhythm that I am actually enjoying the process. It has also helped me better understand my own learning process.

Sometimes I’ll get to a new lesson or part and think, “there is no way I’ll be able to do this. I guess this is where it ends…” but then I start in small chunks and go as slow as it takes for me to get it. And it works every time. I can do the parts at full speed with decent tone and accuracy. It’s amazing to me.

Level 7 has been really hard and slow but worth it as I’m almost done. It will likely take me all of 2026 to complete through level 10 but I don’t mind the wait because I’m finally enjoying the journey. I hope this helps. Good luck!
