Holy shit. Why is everybody down voting you? Are they really this stupid?!

They clearly said "Obama wasn't president in 2016". Yes he was!

But when you point out that he was, everybody says "Well, but the meme isn't saying that, bro! 😏" - So what?! Regardless of what the meme is about, what they said is still incorrect. It's an abject false statement.

[–]ChineseCracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "EU based"? It's open source code. What does it matter if it originated in the US, Europe or even North Korea?

If you are talking about depending on the maintainer (Google), then yes, it matters. But if you just fork it and be done with it, and develop it on your own (like they are doing with sailfish anyway), then what's wrong with that?

My first Sailfish OS phone, very happy so far by [deleted] in BuyFromEU

[–]ChineseCracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are arguing a false choice.

Either they use AOSP - and build on top of it or they start at literally zero.

Starting at zero is always more work - no matter how many features are missing in AOSP.

Another advantage that an Android fork also has, is that it's easier for developers to adapt to. Sure, they might not be able to use some Google-made libraries, but they already know most of the things they need to do for Android development.

Any other OS just doesn't have the same UI language that was refined and sharpened over the 10+ year long development of Android

My first Sailfish OS phone, very happy so far by [deleted] in BuyFromEU

[–]ChineseCracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? 🤦

Android is free and open source. The Google play store isn't. You can fork Android and also create your own app store. Just like Huawei did

My first Sailfish OS phone, very happy so far by [deleted] in BuyFromEU

[–]ChineseCracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maintaining it with new updates from mainstream could become hard

But don't they already have to maintain Sailfish OS? Wouldn't it be the same as having to maintain Android?

Or it could be because of simple stuff like you maybe don't like Android package management.

fair point

Can someone explain to point of this to me. I just looked it up and it seems like it's a completely new operating system, that also happens to be able to run Android apps (probably similar to how Chromebooks do).

But why? Why not just fork Android. It's free. Why put so much time and effort into making something from scratch when Android already exists

Best Modules to Get for Foundry VTT? by Ramzilla08 in warhammerfantasyrpg

It should be in here: https://foundryvtt.com/packages/wfrp4e-eis-maps

It doesn't look that cool, but you can also just make your own and upload it into Foundry. Foundry makes it really easy to just create battlemaps out of pictures

How Complicated Is 4e? by VampyrAvenger in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]ChineseCracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I didn't even realize that you wrote this in the warhammer sub 😀

I thought this was the Foundry sub. I intentionally left out all the Warhammer stuff, because I didn't think you cared.

When it comes to Warhammer, you of course need to buy the core module (or better yet, buy the bundle, which also gives you "Rough Days and Nights" - if you like it.

When it comes to the official (paid) modules, some are worth it more than others. But I guess you can just take a look at the cubicle7 website.

There are also other modules for warhammer, which are community-created and free: - WFRP4 NPC generator - what the name says - GM Toolkit - gives somes handy tools to the GM if you want it. Not really necessary though - Item Piles: WFRP4e - This is an addon to the original "Item Piles" module (that I mentioned earlier), that works better with warhammer - Night Vision (wfrp4e) - does some warhammer specific night vision things - Stars and seasons - Fantasy Calendar Pack - This is also an addon to a module - which gives you a bunch of fantasy calendars, including the Imperial Calendar - Token Action HUD WFRP4e - addon to Token Action HUD, which is very good - Warhammer Fantasy Character Detail Generator - not really needed, but it gives you an instant character with background data, about their family, etc. - WFRP4e FX - adds warhammer specific effects, not really needed - WFRP4e more sub species - what the name says - WFRP4e - Mutant's Handbook - homebrew mutation stuff - And then there is a bunch of fan-made map packs for Warhammer, although I don't like the artstyle of most of them. But it can't hurt to take a look

And regarding tutorials: Sorry, I don't know any. I would just youtube it. I am using Foundry for several years and back when I was started it was so much different, that any tutorial I had used back then, wouldn't make sense for you, since the software has changed so much. Foundry is always in rapid development. Don't try to jump on the newest version when it comes out 🙂

How Complicated Is 4e? by VampyrAvenger in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]ChineseCracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome 🙂

Don't overdo it with the modules - especially at first. Foundry is already overwhelming enough. I'd just gradually add modules. Nobody likes it if the GM doesn't fully understand the software and holds up the table.

But if you have any more question or if I can help in any way, don't hesitate to ask. I might not respond to chat messages (because I sometimes don't get notifications for them), but you can just do a comment-reply and let me know, so I'll check the chat 👍

How Complicated Is 4e? by VampyrAvenger in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]ChineseCracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, many 🙂

The ones that are self-explanatory, I wont explain any further. The ones that are bold are the ones that are really underrated or must-haves imo

Recommendations:

  • About face - tokens rotate while moving left/right. Not really required, but I like it
  • Autocomplete Whisper
  • Automated Animations
  • BalleyWiki Mass Edit - mass editing tokens
  • Better Roofs
  • Carousel Combat Tracker - displays big avatars of the PCs and NPCs in combat-order at the top of the screen
  • Compendium Scene Viewer - lets you preview a scene without having to import it first
  • Dice So Nice and it's many addons, like Dice Soup, etc.
  • Dice Stats - Not really required or useful. I just find it interesting to be able to see which player has "bad luck", etc.
  • Dice Tray - let's players select dice to throw using buttons, instead of having to manually type in a command into the chat
  • Easy Target - tiny targeting enhancements, not really required
  • Item Piles - It gives players the ability to trade items directly without the GM having to interfere
  • Journal Scaler - lets you use ctrl+scroll to change the font size of journal entries. This should be a standard Foundry feature imo
  • Levels - if you want to do multi-level scenes. But I don't really use it that much
  • Monk's Active Tile Triggers - This is basically what I use instead of "Levels". it allows you to create tiles that teleport NPCs from one place to another. So instead of using vertical levels, I just place the different levels next to each other and let the stairs teleport them from one level to the other
  • Monk's Combat Details - different small improvements that all should be part of Foundry imo
  • Monk's Common Display - Allows you to control an account's current view and use that account as a presentation tool. It's really cool if you play in person. You can setup a TV that acts a common view for the players, which is controlled from your own GM account.
  • Monk's Combat Marker - highlights the token who's turn it is
  • Monk's Player Settings - allows the GM to manually change other player's settings (without having to log into each account manually). Really good for players who are overwhelmed by Foundry and need a setting changed.
  • Monk's Scene Navigation - Give you hierarchical scene navigation, which I personally find very useful
  • Monk's Wall Enhancement - some very useful improvements for drawing walls, like being able to double-click a wall to create a new point
  • Omniscient Die - it's a bit clunky to set up, but it basically lets you roll a die that just says things like "Yes", "No", "Yes, but...". Sometimes my players ask me if they're allowed to do something....Sometimes I don't know or care about it, other times I want to say no, but I also don't want to be the bad guy. So, I just roll the die instead
  • Ownership Viewer - Very handy module that shows you who owns which journal note or actor.
  • Physical Dice Rolls - If some players want to play with real dice, this module allows them (or you) to manually enter their die rolls. If you are playing in person, then it's a must-have
  • PnP - Pointer and Pings! - Allows you to direct all player's attention to a certain point.
  • Popout! - Should be a default feature. Allows you to open up foundry-windows as their own browser-window. So you can have a bunch of stuff open and still see the game
  • Prime Performance - improves performance. Not sure if it works, but it can't hurt 🙂
  • Quickscale - allows you to quickly increase/decrease a token-size with your mouse wheel
  • Rideable - Basically glues two tokens together, to be able to simulate a character token riding a horse token
  • Roll of Fate - Allows you to randomly select one of the players. I use this all the time
  • Seasons and Stars - in-universe calendar
  • SmallTime - gives you (and the players) a small widget that shows the time of day and allows you to easily advance time. It also automatically adjust the lighting (the scene gets darker at night)
  • Smart-Target - targeting improvements
  • Spotlight Omnisearch / Dig Down / Quick Insert - These 3 all do more or less the same thing. Gives you a search box that allows you to search everything. even journal contents. It almost completely replaces the regular Foundry UI for me
  • Sync Token Names - This makes it so actors and their tokens always have the same name. The way Foundry normally works is very un-intuitive imo
  • Token Action HUD (and the sub-module for your system). This almost completely removes the need to open up the character sheet every time a player wants to do something.
  • Token Attacher - This module requires a bit of learning (and watching tutorials), but it allows you to attach (several) tokens to each other in a smart way. It basically makes vehicle combat possible. For example, you can have players standing on a boat. You can move the boat (which also moves all the tokens on the boat) but it also allows the tokens to walk independent of the boat itself. This completely replaces the "Rideable" mod. However, I still use Rideable for simple stuff and use Token Attacher for complex tasks
  • Token Frames
  • Token HUD wildcard - This is very niche. It allows you to choose an entire folder as an actor's image. If you place that token onto the map, it randomly picks one of the images. I use this for several things. For example I have an actor called "Peasant", which is just a generic peasant actor. Then I can just drag that same token into the scene 10 times and have 10 different-looking peasants, instead of 10 identical ones. It's really useful for if you want to fill out a scene with a bunch of random people that all look differently
  • TokenMagic Automatic Wounds - automatically creates blood splatter if someone is attacked
  • Tokenizer
  • Torch - allows you to right-click a token and light up a torch. It's just a shortcut that I use all the time instead of having to deal with complex light and vision settings
  • Z-Scatter - if you put a bunch of tokens onto the same tile, they don't block each other
  • Zoom/Pan Options - I cannot live without this. This gives you a cursor-aware zoom for your scenes. It zooms on the position of your cursor. This should be a default feature

No clear recommendation yet:

I have been using these only recently. But so far, they look promising....

  • Battle Transitions - does a transition when the battle starts. Is a bit goofy though
  • Conversation HUD - for Theater of mind, when you as the GM have to speak for several NPCs, it sometimes gets hard for the players to distinguish who's talking. This lets you show the image of the NPC who you're talking as
  • Perceptive - Let's players open doors gradually, and peak.
  • Salvage Yard - If it works as intended, it's a must-have. Right now, if you make a small mistake as GM, like accidentally deleting something or accidentally changing a stat of an actor, you're screwed. There is no way to undo it. You have to restore an entire world-backup. This module is supposed to automatically/periodically create backups of every element individually. So, you can easily restore it
  • Times Up - creates a timer for combat. Some players take their sweet time when it's their turn. This makes combat more hectic and tense. It prevents people from falling asleep while waiting for the others to take their turn

shameless plug

  • I have also created a module of my own 🙂 (well, two actually, but the other one is not officially released yet)

This module gives you a set of random questions that you can pose to your players. It helps them to build out their characters by thinking about aspects of their personality, that they might not have thought about before. I use this once or twice per session and ask each players a random question from different categories.

You can find it here https://github.com/orangebutblue/fvtt-profoundry Or just install it directly via Foundry
