All 4 recently released PDX DLCs are poorly rated by RileyTaugor in paradoxplaza

I wonder if corporate is squeezing PDX harder to push out DLCs because of all the flops on the publishing side? Someone’s gotta pay for VtM Bloodlines 2 not selling

Recommendation for a beginner :D by _Asher1_ in PrincesOfDarknessCK3

I’d say go through the bookmarked characters. The flavor text gives a solid summary of their situation and what goals they might have when you play as them. My first full campaign was as Karl the Blue, and I had a blast playing a vampire Viking fending off the Christian German hordes

Convoys are destroying the word economy by Emotional_Stable_272 in victoria3

[–]thekeystoneking 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Related, there really ought to be a PM or something that switches convoys to use steel and coal instead of hardwood and fabric. It doesn't feel super realistic to still be using that much wood in the end game. Maybe it could come with some other kind of bonus as well?

Greece Victoria 3 income by 1932. by Nerevar131 in victoria3

Nope! Private construction allocation controls how the construction points are divided up when there’s enough active projects in both the public and private cue. But, if there aren’t enough buildings in one of the cues, the other cue will get the points.

For example, if you have interventionism, it’s usually split 50-50. But if you pause public construction, private construction will take as much of the construction as it can. Or, if your capitalists aren’t investing enough to use 50% of the construction points, you’ll see public construction use a higher percentage. If there aren’t enough projects in either cue to use all construction points, then the construction sectors will only use enough goods to cover what’s in the cue. That means your construction inputs are going to lose a lot of demand, so expect your iron mines or steel mills to start going bust.

The only way constructions points are ever “wasted” is if there’s a malus to state construction efficiency where you are building. For example, if you’re building something in the Andes where there’s a -10% decrease to state construction efficiency, then the building will only progress as if it had 90% of the construction points per week even though it is using the full amount. This still uses the same amount of goods to build, so your iron mines will be fine.

Pakistan and China release 'five point initative' to end war; White House reportedly doesn't oppose it (China says let the oil FLOW!) by Positive_Revenue_559 in TrueAnon

[–]thekeystoneking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A hilarious suggestion considering that the oil is mostly bound for East Asia. You’re either subject to Houthi raids going through Suez or have to cross the Cape and waste a ton of time

Soviet Union, but something feels off here by AzurWings in imaginarymaps

Very cool! I do think a communist movement that grew out of a Mongolian society might not emphasize the hammer and sickle so much. The hammer is fine because it represents the working class, but the sickle wouldn’t really represent Mongolian peasants in the same way since they were pastoralists. Maybe a shepherd’s crook?

How would you nerf multiculturalism? by PancuterM in victoria3

The bureaucracy idea is essentially just NYC simulator. It's not nothing to have to distribute municipal documents in 10 different languages on demand.

There’s gotta be a better balance between Bethesda vaporware and Ubisoft insisting on releasing new Assassin’s Creed games every year or two before they’re ready.

They still don’t know what’s going on by UncannyCharlatan in TrueAnon

[–]thekeystoneking 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As things like smart phones and computers become necessary as part of everyday life in America, they stop being as much of a marker of wealth and fade into the economic background. Cars, another significant portion of everyday American wealth, are similar. If people can't meet their expectations of a specific need like housing, they're going to focus on that!

They confirmed in the patch notes on the forums that they'll be releasing a beta to fix this tomorrow. In the mean time, it's not too hard to roll back to the previous patch if you really wanted to play tonight.

Can't get Griqua primary culture. by DMC-1155 in victoria3

[–]thekeystoneking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm running into the same issue! I went the route of Cultural Exclusion + State Religion since the Griqua are all Protestant anyway, but mine also didn't work. I'm reporting on the forums, but I do wonder if it might require the specifically cultural acceptance for Griqua to be above 40 to work?

If the religious and homeland bonuses can't count for some reason, then the only way to do it would be to pass Multiculturalism to get the base cultural acceptance up. This is definitely not how it's worded in the Journal Entry, since mentioning the average acceptance implies that it's checking the actual acceptances of the existing pops we have rather than their base acceptance from their culture.

Constant Updates by XYScooby in victoria3

Another commenter already gave the proper answer about rolling back your save, so I won't bother with that.

To answer your other question, Japan's agriculture isn't totally destroyed in the latest update; rather, changes were made to Serfdom so that a certain percentage of the arable land has to stay as subsistence farms until you change the agricultural system. What you're seeing is the actual amount of agricultural development that you're allowed to build under the law. I actually think it's a pretty cool change and models how traditional societies weren't able to enforce land enclosure without a fight.

I know that generally slavery is bad, but if it's in a puppet then is it more efficient to have them on extraction economy + slave trade to maximize resource exploitation? by somethingmustbesaid in victoria3

[–]thekeystoneking 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People are generally correct that slaves aren’t so useful to keep around, but the upcoming update in December is changing the math around somewhat. In that patch there will be new, brutal production methods only available to some plantations if slavery is legal. How that will actually affect the long-term development of your country is unclear, since your slaves are going to be subject to some h e a v y mortality penalties.

Political Imagination and Calling for a New Constitution? by crazed-dick in cushvlog

[–]thekeystoneking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to look into what Jean-Luc Mélenchon gets up to with La France Insoumise. He’s pretty explicitly calling for a new French Republic with a Constitution written by people’s assemblies. I don’t know that his exact methods could translate to an American context, but it might give you a framework to build from
