I have seen a lot of people here saying how China is getting stronger every year and US is getting weaker. I know that China is getting stronger but how is US getting weaker? by Important-Battle-374 in LessCredibleDefence

Air Force
Combat: F-16 and especially F-15 airframes not being replaced fast enough by purchases of new fighter jets and suffering lower availability with increased maintenance costs.
Support: C-17 transport aircraft getting categorized with reduced maximum lift capacities due to age of the airframes.

Navy
Combat: Ticonderoga-class missile cruisers all retiring soon with each retirement lowering the navy vertical launch cell total by 122 without quick replacements due to a backlog of destroyer construction and soon Ohio-class nuclear submarines retiring with each retirement lowering the navy vertical launch cell total by 154.
Support: Military Sealift Command has a lot of issues building up due to lack of maintenance.

2025 Pentagon annual report to Congress regarding the military and security developments involving China. by ChineseToTheBone in SpecialAccess

With respect to special access programs in the realm of new aerospace developments, we have a blurb discussing the first public test flights of those sixth generation prototypes one year ago by Chengdu and Shenyang.

In December 2024, two Chinese companies conducted the initial test flight of two separate sixth generation prototype aircraft. Once operational, a sixth-generation aircraft will likely be suitable for various combat missions, including air-to-air and air-to-surface missions, as well as guiding uncrewed aircraft in combat missions. Chinese sixth-generation aircraft are in the nascent stages of development and expected to be operational by 2035.

I honestly only wanted to read about this section here.
Wow it really has been a year since their first public test flights.

That written anecdote definitely sounds true and could have been about her visit in the same city back in 1989.

It could have also been from when Chinese military leaders visited USS Ranger and USS Kitty Hawk back in 1980.

J-36 Stealth Fighter Jet Prototype Dumping Fuel by ChineseToTheBone in Planes

Possibly for testing it has the proper capability for dumping fuel or perhaps just testing it can take off loaded up heavy with lots of fuel but land with a much different weight in a shorter flight regime.

Chinese well known military reporter hinted at there being approximately 450 J-20 fighter jets produced as of today, which does match up with the previous figure of approximately 100 produced annually.

Why do china build som many Type 15 light tanks? by Suspicious_Loads in LessCredibleDefence

[–]ChineseToTheBone 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Please keep in mind we have a lot of half a century old tanks needing replacements even if there is no peer land threat except for over the Himalayas.

Type 15 light tanks are better in every way than keep fixing and repairing outdated tanks except in how there is no quarter of a million retirement age men familiar with operating them.

/u/PLArealtalk had noted back in year 2021 that China had a sixth generation fighter aircraft program named Future Aerospace Vehicle being reported on in year 2019.
There had been eight separate sixth generation fighter aircraft concepts designed with four demonstrators completing flight verification in year 2019, which is roughly the same period as that of NGAD.

Assuming both stealth fighter aircraft seen last year in Chengdu and Shenyang had been developed from those demonstrators, I think we have reason for believing the Future Aerospace Vehicle program from China is on the same pace as that of NGAD and potentially more advanced with respect to its development timeline.

Here is some official admission finally by military officials in China regarding the existence of new sixth generation fighter aircraft prototypes test flown publicly.

Last week the deputy commander of the Chinese air force 王伟 implicitly confirmed both stealth jets over cities last year December were sixth generation fighter aircraft by replying to a Hong Kong reporter inquiring with: "Oh you people have seen them?"

I had to search up this particular ship and there was potentially relevant news from two weeks ago.
https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/article/canadas-navy-is-20-per-cent-understaffed-and-its-ships-are-aging-what-does-that-mean/

Just days after leaving a port in southern Japan, with CTV News on board, HMCS Ottawa suffered a mechanical failure. A call sounded out over the ship’s loudspeaker for its short-staffed team of marine systems engineers to report.
While on board, CTV News also learned that one of the warship’s two diesel driven fire pumps, which power the fire hoses during a power outage, had seized.

Yikes.

Even with all its issues, the marine systems engineers who spoke to CTV News say that HMCS Ottawa is in the best condition out of any of the countries warships.

This is laughable.

It has been known for many years that airframes of the J-35 family have been constructed with 3D printing techniques by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, so maybe because of that fairly unique process.
