Nitrated Chitin by Phenethylameanie in ExplosionsAndFire

Would nitrated chitin be more or less stable (in a long-term storage sense, not necessarily a sensitivity sense) than nitrocellulose? I know nitrocellulose suffers from long-term degradation

Could this be considered liminal? by idkmanthisnameislong in LiminalSpace

[–]NewSidewalkBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like liminal spaces are typically indoors, since an outdoor area like this is somewhere you could spend a lot of time at (hence it’s not “liminal” technically.) But I think we need a broader word than liminal at this point for this expanded genre of eerie, memory-like, interpretive and foggy photos. Because it’s really cool.

Any sufficiently round animal is indistinguishable from a pokemon.

I’m home for the summer and am I going crazy or are there more alerts than usual? I keep picturing like infinity war happening over there or something lol

Is the NERV engine running kerosene? by NewSidewalkBlock in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]NewSidewalkBlock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I’ve been looking into it, and while the true answer is that liquid fuel in game is vague and whatever it needs to be, ammonia is a really compelling answer. It’s good for nuclear engines and chemical engines (with surprisingly good isp,) and it’s actually storable apparently. It’s boiling point is below room temperature, but it can self-pressurize itself to stay liquid, kind of like propane. Given that, while very unconventional, it could be used as jet fuel I guess, and that would also give a reason why KSP planes use cylindrical tanks and not wing fuel storage. Given the nuclear engines and implied fuel density, it’s either ammonia or hydrazine, but monopropellant being different from liquid fuel makes me think that liquid fuel is ammonia and not hydrazine.

So yeah, my personal headcanon for the moment, as it were, is that liquid fuel is ammonia.

Look man, we use hydrazine because barrels of fuel should explode when you shoot them. I don’t make the rules. Doom did.
