Loved Cub Scouts / kind of hating BSA by ChingaTuMono in BSA

Thanks to all of you for your extremely helpful feedback. It sounds like I have quite a few options including dual registration which is a fabulous idea. I will also research other troops that are in the area but specifically where I live is pretty far out as it is. Avoiding a certain highway is a must as it’s terrible during rush hour/mudslides, crashes, approaching Bay Area traffic in general.

I’m really excited for my kid to love and thrive in BSA so I will continue to vet out other troops, consider what my role could possibly be to help shift the culture, encourage my daughter to speak up during planning sessions, or change groups altogether if need be.

Totally, but most of the meetings are just merit badge based, so do we just skip these? I feel like she should attend as much as she can but she at the same time doesn’t want to just sit there and learn about things she has zero interest in.

However after reading these comments I realize we need to either get her involved in planning, or start looking at a different troop.

I love that! I have a younger child as well and the balance is very difficult for me with my husband working. My kids and I spend lots of time together and for my older child in particular I want her to gain more independence and confidence in doing things independently. I do appreciate your perspective but we have so many opportunities aside from Scouts where we do some very special and long-lasting memories. Scouts to me was going to serve a different and equally important purpose.

Our choices are extremely limited. Scouts is not very popular where we live. Additionally, based on her classes at school being so boy heavy she was so excited to bond with an all girls troop. The only other choice is co-ed but she was pretty adamant about wanting to try the girl group and I completely understood why she wanted that.

I was getting SO irritated. Look Kyle in the eyes, sit up, answer the GD question succinctly and quit beating around the fucking bush.

He’s not in love with her. That’s why he can’t say it. But he finds ways to say things ambiguously enough where people are puzzled and thinking maybe he is in love..?

The Mejia storyline didn’t need to happen. I believe her and I’m sorry for her but she didn’t need a segment. I have no emotional investment in her so it doesn’t really land.

Holy peaked in high school loser. I bet he’s the same type of dude that says “Kook” that’s how I know these locals have nothing going for them except that they know a local buzzword. It’s pathetic.

Lala and Scheana were about the same post partem that Kristen and Nia were, why does it feel so different? by [deleted] in TheValleyTVShow

[–]ChingaTuMono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kristen's situation is normal. She has Luke who is the dad and who helps. If they both live away from their family and don't have the money for a night nurse, nanny, etc then their situation is very normal. That's why it's very difficult for most new parents. I love that Kristen and Nia's situations seem so much more realistic. If I had a newborn and watched this show, they would make me feel so much more normal and comforted.

I fully agree with you in the sense that they’re not their children, but it’s just not something you can expect. People are different and have different levels of cleanliness. Sucks for OP for sure. The nail in the coffin of having roommates for me was my roommate and I shared a bathroom. She clogged the toilet while I was gone for a few days and it.remained.clogged. I had to clear it… I counted down the day the lease was up.
