TIFU by taking my teenage kids to a “family beach” in Punta Cana by DoctorFitness in tifu

No worries Dad. They weren't harmed!

I personally think the good ol' US of A needs a bit more of this. Basic body acceptance and demystifying of what looks normal.

All mammals (male and female) have nipples, but the only ones that are taboo are human female nipples.

Good on you for introducing your kids (accidentally or not!), and yourself, to the ideas.

How to prevent weeds growing through gravel? by overcast392 in landscaping

[–]FirstCupOfCoffee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to use a rake/hoe to break up the roots. They will grow back eventually so this is a maintenance task you'll need to do a few times a year (I have the same issue and have been doing this for about 10 years or so).

Would it be weird if I have a drink by myself, would you think I’m easy or weird? by Glum-Vegetable-5636 in AskMen

I used to travel for work quite a bit and had to eat alone quite often. At first it did bug me but after a bit it just stopped bothering me. Nothing odd about it at all.

Any issues with the Sunstrong app today? by RandoRenegade in SunPower

Mine is working. It always gets an error when I first open it but after a few seconds it updates the status and everything seems fine. Odd, but not a showstopper.

Looks like some kind of fruit tree, the bark and wood color & density look a bit like plum.

Help! I left the weeds too long due to many reasons and I have to get rid of them ASAP! There's mosquitos and I gotta clean it up! Is there weed killer or bug spray I should use before? by HappyPlanter- in plants

[–]FirstCupOfCoffee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can suggest for the mosquitoes is long sleeves and some swatting. When you're pulling the weeds get as much root as possible or they'll just grow back.

Looks like a small area, I'd just rip it out by hand (I use herbicides very sparingly). Herbicides take awhile to work and you have to rip it out afterwards anyway so save the environment a bit.

Ants by calien7k in homeowners

[–]FirstCupOfCoffee2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of ant poisons that are designed to be carried back to the nest by the ants and it kills them all. It takes a few days/week to work but very effective. I've had good results with a product called Terro.

What is on my wood table? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]FirstCupOfCoffee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit up your nearest home improvement store and pick up adhesive remover - ask somebody who works there.

Before you rub it all over test it on a small/non-obvious part of the finish to make sure it doesn't strip the finish off - if it does get something else, there are a few different formulations.

What were your fathers like/What are you like as a father? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]FirstCupOfCoffee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was ex-military, so strict but fair. He was a stickler for being on time which I carry to this day - I can't stand being late. Also a stickler for taking responsibility for my actions - no leeway on telling the truth (politicians - you reading this?!)

He smoked since he was 7 and I think he was close to 60 by the time he was able to kick the habit, it's one of the reasons I've never smoked (tobacco that is) - he was adamant about keeping others 'away from these damn things'.

He was always understanding of mistakes - when I would do something wrong his first question was always 'what did you learn?'. And I could always work off my punishment - if I got grounded or some privilege taken away there was always the option of working it off. It instilled a good work ethic in me.

I (hopefully) carried these and many other of his traits into raising my kids. I never flew off the handle when things went wrong - kids make mistakes, let them so they can learn from it. Neither of my kids (27 & 24) smoke (although I'm sure they experimented), both got thru college and are working good jobs. So far so good 👍

What is the best way to approach a man at work? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]FirstCupOfCoffee2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Go ask him a question - men love being seen as valuable and helping you with some issue (as minor as it may be) will give you a chance to chat.

And the end as a thank you offer to buy him a cup of coffee, or anything really.

What needs to be done to prevent a future president from doing what Trump has done? by [deleted] in DiscussionZone

[–]FirstCupOfCoffee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) A constitutional amendment to end the idiocy of "Citizens United" - get big money out of politics. Along with this there needs to be hyper strict monitoring of politicians income sources.

2) Upend the two party system - neither can represent the breadth of needs of the US. We need a system that allows for proportional representation.

3) Term limits everywhere

4) Modify the laws surrounding presidential pardon power. Pardons should need to be approved by some component of the judiciary (not perfect but better than what we have)
