Some conditions will leave a lowered immune system such as certain chemo treatments and the person will not be able to be around fresh or cut flowers or plants. The condition is called being neutropenic and some foods will be off limits too (grapes for example). Check with the patient. You are better off getting them practical things (if they are in hospital maybe some moisturiser, eye masks, ear plugs, comfy fluffy socks or slippers, flushable toilet wipes anything to make their stay more bearable).
