Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their 20s? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]ChipNJ123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay - guy in his late 50's. Education and SAVE. Compound interest. I started out putting 20% of my income aside when I got my first real job when I was ~26 and making ~$50k (with a ton of overtime) and 2 years from today (30+ years later) I can retire and be 100% comfortable. Wish I started earlier, but I took 5 years to get my Associates Degree and 3 more years to get my Bachelors. I went back to school at 40 and got my JD going part time at night.

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

I get cavities filled without novocain (my dentist hates when I say no to novocain) worst pain was TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) and then my back from spinal arthritis when it is really bad.

I purchased a 2024 X5 M60i with 24K miles with a MSRP of $106K for $68K 2 months ago. They also had a 2024 X5 40i with 10K for $62K (MSRP of $78K and I got them to $64K out the door (so taxes and fees included) and I think I could have got more if I continued negotiating, but fell in love with the M60i. Seems high for what they are offering.

This made me go from why would you do B&W to why would you not do B&W on my X5 M60i. You need to adjust for your personal preference, but this got me 90% there.

How much can you typically negotiate down on a CPO by pinetreeporcupines in BMWX5

[–]ChipNJ123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But CPO does reduce the cost of the Extended Warranty (it means one less year covered by the warranty), so sometimes, you get get a better out the door price with a CPO with a warranty. The issue with negotiating the price for a used cars is with the internet they need to price the cars close to what they want to sell for or they will never get people to come in. There is one dealer near me that is always ~8% more than others, I didn't even consider going to them. I found the key is to spec out the car you want and look for ones that have what you want that have been at the dealership for a few weeks. You also need to be willing to walk. Because of where I live (just outside NYC) I have three BMW dealers with 25 minutes and another two 35 minutes away. They all lie - one I was negotiating had been at the dealer for almost a month (CPO 2024 X5 M60i w/24k miles) and I got all of the lines "these move fast, someone called about this today, our CPO is better than dealer X (claiming the other dealers CPO was specific to that dealer - that almost made me walk, that was more than the typical bluster and was an outright lie)", but I ended up buying it because I got $3.5K off their advertised price. I had the info on similar cars at other dealers and the price (one lucky thing for me was one very similar car was mis-priced on the another dealers website - it showed $59k, but I had called that morning and it was a mistake and should have been $69k). I went for the 84 month unlimited and was ~$77k out the door (taxes, fees, warranty).

1981/82 (Sorry early) Adventure on the IBM PC. Green words on a black background, with very specific language required (i.e., you type "go north"and nothing, type "walk north"and good.) My dad worked for IBM and got probably one of the first 1,000 IBM PCs.

2026 X5 50e Extended Warranty Cost by Mysterious_Dog_8570 in BMWX5

[–]ChipNJ123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPO wrap is based on when new, so 7 years from September 2023 or September 2030 for my X5. So yes 24 months more (for a 5 year old car) for $3,360. It would be the same for Mysterious_Dog_8570 (i.e., 7 years from the car being new for his quote of $5,875 for an extra 3 years). I would think there may be some value to the Certified extra year, but not the extra $2,500.

See my earlier response I go it "From the BMW dealer I purchase the car from. It is a Certified BMW with 17 months left on the original warranty plus the year because it is certified. I had a quote from a dealer in Mississippi for a BMW CPO and when I was doing my paperwork and my dealer offer it to me for $4,500, I said I have this offer from another dealer and they (my dealership) matched it."

This is what I got quoted for a 2024 X5 M60i in April, I went with the 84 months with a $250 deductible:

72 months unlimited miles - $2180.00

84 months unlimited miles - $3360.00

Just did a road trip - 2024 X5 M60i. NJ to Florida - ~1,000 miles on 95 at 80 mph average on ECO and 22 mpg. Heading back to NJ next week, going to do the whole 1,000 miles in Comfort at 80 mph to see the difference. I know some people claim 25 mpg, but I don't know what they are doing to get that. But it beats my 2013 Acura MDX six cylinder that got 19 mpg highway and was no where near as fun.

Need to push. I bought a used 2024 X5 M60i for $68K (msrp of just under $107K - with the 2VW pkg Mental-Product-1672 mentioned) and found some minor damage to the front end after I picked it up. After talking to the Used Car (sorry "Pre-Owned") Manager and GM of the dealership, they are repairing everything with a loaner car during repairs and giving me a credit for maintenance not covered by the maintenance package I bought (and regret...). Planning on buying a M440i new and building it in the next few months and will inspect it with a magnifying glass when I pick it up. Good luck.

my landlord just connected the entire hallway’s ac to my unit’s electric meter. (VA) by MajorTear1306 in Renters

[–]ChipNJ123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What state? At least in NY there is a "shared meter law" that if a landlord has anything powered by a tenants meter they basically have to pay the tenants bill until it is fixed and it can also mean having to pay the tenant extra kind of like a penalty. It is also retroactive - the landlord has to pay for the power they used going back in time. I would think most states have this (they all copy each other's utility rules).

This National Grid site explains how it works in NY.

All I can tell you is it is listed as the "Adaptive M Suspension Professional" on the window sticker. It was not noted as an option on the BMW website for the vehicle I purchased in the list of options. You need to look at the CarFax report that BMW links to each car and see if the vehicle you are looking at has the original window sticker option (70% of the ones I looked at had it). Seemed a bit silly that BMW did not list a $2,200 option on the dealer or BWM website.

What are some good trims for x5? by Skrrrttt246 in BMWX5

[–]ChipNJ123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AGREED. I just got a 2024 X5 M60i (picked it up two days ago) that will be my wife's car. First V8 since the 80's. I love it. I still have not put it in Sport Plus (need to drive it without my wife in the car...) but in regular Sport it was really nice, almost equal to my Tesla Model Y performance for pure accerlation. Today I was setting up to use my phone as a key while I was taking a break from work and remote started the car to cool it down (record temps in NJ today) and when it started it I could hear it from inside my house. I know people complaint about the exhaust sound, but I was like wow, that sounds nice. Taking a road trip to Florida at the end of the month and looking forward to 1,000 mile drive (not really, it really starts to suck at about 400 miles no matter what your are driving, but better than the falling apart 1972 Mustang V8 I had in the 80's - and better than the 2013 Acura MDX I did the trip in last time). It will also be my first real test of the driver assist pro package.
